Tom Berg and Monte Westcott won the Susquehanna Bass Association's season-opening Pickwick Motor Sports Open last Sunday on Canadarago Lake. Berg and Westcott filled the five-fish limit and amassed 15.25 pounds.

Patrick McNeil and Bill Beadle placed second (five fish, 13.96 pounds); Les Beckwith and son Mike Beckwith finished third (five smallmouths, 13.47); and Bob Luther and Jim Clement were fourth (12.60).

Luther caught the lunker of the tournament, a largemouth bass weighing 4.40 pounds. Patrick McNeil caught the big smallmouth (3.70 pounds).

Davenport honored longtime coach Ray Preston by renaming its O'Connor Tournament in girls basketball the Ray Preston Holiday Classic, the school announced following its annual sports banquet June 12.

Preston has coached at Davenport for more than 30 years.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Blood drive Saturday at Baseball Hall

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in the museum's Education Gallery.

Donors will receive free admission to the Hall on Saturday. Museum members, who are admitted free year-round, will receive a gift.

Former Olympian Ken Chertow will host the Gold Medal Wrestling Training Camp from Saturday to Wednesday at Oneonta State.

The camp is open to wrestlers of all ages. Participants may register online, but walk-ins will be accepted. Health forms are required by the state and must be completed for each camper before check-in.

SUNY Cobleskill will host members of the Oklahoma State wrestling team for a clinic that runs Saturday through July 5.

The Otsego County Cornell Cooperative Extension will host a Reality Check teen night when the Oneonta Tigers host the Tri-City ValleyCats at 7:05 p.m. July 11 at Damaschke Field.

General admission will be half-price at $3 per ticket. The Reality Check teens will promote the anti-tobacco night by handing out tips to quit smoking and sponsoring games.

The CCE announced that Oneonta mayor John Nader will throw out the first pitch.

The eligibility age and cost for lifetime senior sportsman licenses will increase Oct. 1, the Town of Oneonta announced Wednesday.

On Oct. 1, the age will move from 65 to 70 and the price will increase from $50 to $65. Senior lifetime sportsman licenses cover hunting (small/big game, turkey), fishing and a waived application fee for deer management permits.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Girls basketball camp at O-State

The Oneonta State women's basketball team will host a developmental overnight/commuter camp for girls ages 10-18 from July 19-23.

The camp, designed to develop fundamentals, begins at 6 p.m. July 19 and ends at 4 p.m. July 23.

Cost is $375 per overnight camper and $300 per commuter. A $10 discount is available to groups of five or more from the same school who register together.

Payment is due at registration, along with health and registration forms and emergency contact information. Deadline to register is July 5.

Hurley's Heroes Track Club of Oneonta will continue its Twilight Track and Field Meets at Oneonta State at 7 p.m. July 21 and Aug. 11.

The meets are free and include the following events: All ages, 100 meters, 200, 400; Ages 14-and-older, 800, mile, 3,000, high jump (if facilities are available); Ages 14-and-younger, 50.

Awards will be presented. Participants should wear appropriate attire.

The seventh annual Davenport Fire Department 5-kilometer run is set for 10 a.m. July 25.

Race-day registration will be held in front of Davenport Central from 8:30-9:45 a.m. Pre-registration costs $15 by July 21 and $20 thereafter. Cost is $10 for students. Pre-registered runners are guaranteed a race T-shirt.

The first Delhi Dolphins Splash 'N Dash Swim/Run Duathlon starts at 9 a.m. Aug. 2 at the SUNY Delhi College Pool. Registration runs from 8-8:45 a.m. on Aug. 2.

Athletes can participate in the following events:

The "10-and-10" is open to youths ages 12-and-younger and counts pool laps completed in 10 minutes then the number of laps run around a 200-meter course in 10 minutes. Youths can compete in one or both parts. Two-person teams are welcome.

The "Swim/Run Duathlon" is open to all ages and features a 400-yard swim followed by a 2-mile loop run on the campus. Two-person teams are welcome.

The Oneonta State men's soccer team will host a summer soccer camp at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta from Aug. 3-7.

The Dragon Camp is for youths ages 6-14 and runs 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. The Elite Camp is for high school players and runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Open-water swim slated for Aug. 8

The Oneonta Family YMCA will hold a 1-mile, 2-mile and half-mile open-water swim at Gilbert Lake on Aug. 8.

Check-in runs from 7:30-8:30 a.m., with a mandatory pre-race meeting to follow. The 1- and 2-mile swims start at 9 a.m. The half-mile swim begins at 9:15 a.m.

The event is open to the public, but those younger than 13 must have competency verified in writing and signed by a non-parent coach or swim instructor.

Entry fee is $25 and includes lunch. A limited number of T-shirts are available for purchase at $15 each. Applications are available at the Oneonta Family YMCA. Entry deadline is 5 p.m. Aug. 6. Thereafter, registrations will be assessed a $10 late fee.
