ONEONTA _ The Oneonta Tigers are being sold and a news conference has been called for 2 p.m. Tuesday to announce the sale, a source speaking on the condition of anonymity said.
Part of the agreement for the sale will keep the Tigers in Oneonta through at least 2010. Baseball and city officials have been notified of the pending sale, the source said.
The source would not reveal the buyers or sale price.
Sam Nader, 88, and Sid Levine, 95, are the only living members of the Oneonta Athletic Corporation, a group that purchased the franchise for $10,000 in 1966. Nader serves as the president of the corporation and Levine as the vice president and treasurer.
The franchise was affiliated with the Boston Red Sox in 1966 and the New York Yankees from 1967 to 1998. The Detroit Tigers has been the parent club since then.
