July 03, 2009 04:00 am Jack Benjamin and Sean Getman drove in runs Thursday, but Oneonta Post 259 fell, 6-2, to Newburgh in a first-round Legion baseball game at the Utica Blue and Gold Classic. Benjamin gave the Green Wave (13-10) a 1-0 lead at Murnane Field in Utica when he doubled down the left-field line to score Matt Marcewicz, who walked with two out in the bottom of the third inning. Starting pitcher Benjamin then yielded two runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth. Getman followed with an RBI single in the sixth before Newburgh capped the scoring with a run in the seventh off Oneonta reliever Ryne Rivino. Benjamin (3-2) struck out four, walked four and allowed three earned runs in six innings. Nate Eastman and Eric Scorzafava each singled for the Wave, who finished with four hits. Oneonta plays two New Jersey teams today _ Haddon Heights at noon and Gibbsboro at 6 p.m. The Classic continues Saturday and Sunday.
