Afton Motor Speedway will host its 2009 season opener at 7 p.m. Friday.

General admission during the regular season is $5. Afton's season ends in October with its Spooktacular Race.

The Oneonta Country Club's Junior Golf Program continues Friday and July 17. A tournament and banquet follows July 31.
Instruction for youths ages 7-9 starts at 8:15 a.m.; ages 10-12 at 9:15 a.m.; and ages 13-17 at 10:15 a.m.
Cost is $50 for the program, which will be led by golf professionals Paul Jaycox, Trevor Jaycox and Mitch Milavec.

The 44th annual Delaware County Men's Amateur Golf Tournament will run Friday through Sunday at the par-72 Delhi College Golf Course.
The tournament will feature a championship division and five handicapped flights. Cost is $100 to compete in the tournament, which is open to members of Delaware County golf courses and Delaware County residents.

The Otsego County Cornell Cooperative Extension will host a Reality Check teen night when the Oneonta Tigers host the Tri-City ValleyCats at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Damaschke Field.
General admission will be half-price at $3 per ticket. The Reality Check teens will promote the anti-tobacco night by handing out tips to quit smoking and sponsoring games.
The CCE announced that Oneonta mayor John Nader will throw out the first pitch.

The Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown will host an Ultimate Frisbee clinic from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The seventh annual Father Whalen Golf Tournament is set for a 10 a.m. shotgun start July 17 at the Stamford Golf Club.
Cost for the scramble event is $95 per player. Sponsor costs are $250 for tees and driving range and $100 for carts. Cost to be a supreme sponsor is $1,500.
The tournament features trophies, door prizes, a continental breakfast, lunch, dinner and a one-hour open bar.

The Oneonta State women's basketball team will host a developmental overnight/commuter camp for girls ages 10-18 from July 19-23.

Cost is $375 per overnight camper and $300 per commuter. A $10 discount is available to groups of five or more from the same school who register together.

The "Swim/Run Duathlon" is open to all ages and features a 400-yard swim followed by a 2-mile loop run on the campus. Two-person teams are welcome.

The Oneonta Family YMCA will hold a 1-mile, 2-mile and half-mile open-water swim at Gilbert Lake on Aug. 8.
Check-in runs from 7:30-8:30 a.m., with a mandatory pre-race meeting to follow. The 1- and 2-mile swims start at 9 a.m. The half-mile swim begins at 9:15 a.m.
The event is open to the public, but those younger than 13 must have competency verified in writing and signed by a non-parent coach or swim instructor.
Entry fee is $25 and includes lunch. A limited number of T-shirts are available for purchase at $15 each. Applications are available at the Oneonta Family YMCA. Entry deadline is 5 p.m. Aug. 6. Thereafter, registrations will be assessed a $10 late fee.

The first Owen Banks Memorial Flag Football Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 22-23 at Austin Lincoln Fields in Walton.

The eligibility age and cost for lifetime senior sportsman licenses will increase Oct. 1, the Town of Oneonta announced earlier this month.
On Oct. 1, the age will move from 65 to 70 and the price will increase from $50 to $65. Senior lifetime sportsman licenses cover hunting (small/big game, turkey), fishing and a waived application fee for deer management permits.
