The Sidney Central Schools Alumni Association will host its first Warrior 4-ev4r Sand Volleyball Tournament on Saturday during its annual alumni weekend.

Proceeds from the tournament will go toward refurbishing the sand volleyball courts and to help establish a bank fund for scholarships toward college and summer camps for Sidney girls. For more information, visit the website www.sidneyalumni.org/page1.html.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Soccer camps continue Monday

The Headwaters Soccer Club will continue its annual summer camp series with Session IV's Hunter Mountain Camp, which runs Monday through July 25 at Minekill State Park in North Blenheim.

Cost is $60 per camper and includes a T-shirt and a water bottle. All camps run from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and are for boys and girls ages 7-17. Enrollment is limited to 125 campers per session. Other sessions are as follows:

Session V: July 28-Aug. 1, New York Central Mutual-Wightman Specialty Woods Camp at Edmeston Central.

Session VI: Aug. 4-8, Move for Life/New York Power Authority Camp at Mine Kill State Park.

Session VII: Aug. 11-15, Bassett Healthcare Sports Medicine Camp at Oneonta State.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Baseball Hall to welcome Molitor

National Baseball Hall of Famer Paul Molitor will participate in a Voices of the Game Series event at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cooperstown shrine.

Elected to the Hall in 2004, Molitor is a seven-time All-Star and earned the 1993 World Series MVP award. He amassed 3,319 hits in 12 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins.

During the program, Molitor will discuss his baseball memories and participate in a question-and-answer session with the audience. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Those with Hall memberships can reserve tickets immediately.

Remaining tickets, if any, will be available to non-members on Monday by calling the Hall's Membership Department at 607-547-0397.

Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew will participate in the next Voices event, which is scheduled for Aug. 31. Hall of Famers George Brett, Phil Niekro, Mike Schmidt and Ozzie Smith will join former major leaguers Dave Bergman, Vince Coleman and Jon Warden in the Hall's Oct. 3 installment.

National Baseball Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith will host "Play Ball," a fundraiser for the Cooperstown shrine's education programs at 8:30 a.m. July 25 at Doubleday Field. Fellow Hall of Famers George Brett and Eddie Murray will participate in the two-hour event, which features interaction with the special guests.

Donation to participate is $600 per person. Cost is $450 for those who own Hall memberships. Space is limited. To reserve a spot or for more information, call the Hall's Membership Department at 607-547-0397.

The sixth annual Davenport Fire Department 5K will start at 10 a.m. July 26. Race-day registration will take place from 8:30-9:45 a.m. in front of Charlotte Valley Central School on Route 23 in Davenport.

The Stamford Women's Golf Association will host its fourth annual Queen of the Catskills Golf Tournament on July 26. The event, which again will feature hole-in-one prizes, opens with registration at 8 a.m. A continental breakfast will follow, and a luncheon will be held in the clubhouse after the tournament.

Cost is $55 per player and includes greens fees, cart fees, a practice round, breakfast, snacks and lunch. Entries must be received by July 17 and are limited to the first 72 players.

The four-person, captain-and-crew event is open to the public. Tournament registration will take place before tee time. Cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Greens fees and carts are extra.

Hartwick College will host a volleyball camp July 27-31. Campers will receive instruction on volleyball fundamentals (hitting, passing, setting, blocking) and learn multiple offenses, defenses and serving strategies.

The 12th annual Eastman Associates Munchkin All-Sport Camp, for youths ages 5-12, will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 28-31.

The camp offers soccer, tennis, basketball, kickball, racquetball, tee-ball, track and badminton. Cost is $60 per camper and includes a T-shirt and a water bottle. All proceeds will benefit the Oneonta State women's soccer team.

SUNY Cobleskill will conclude its Fighting Tiger Basketball Camp program under the direction of athletic director and men's basketball coach Kevin McCarthy with the five-day Girls Day Camp (ages 9-17), which runs from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 28-31 and from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Aug. 1.

Cost is $140 per pre-registered camper. Registration on the first day of camp will cost an additional $10.

Tickets for the National Soccer Hall of Fame's annual President's Reception and Hall of Fame Banquet, scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Oneonta shrine, are on sale at $75 per person.

The events are open to the public and take place inside the Hall. The Big 3 Enshrinement Ceremony will follow in the Hall's atrium.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Soccer Hall announces Big 3' event

The National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta will hold the 2008 Big 3 Enshrinement Ceremony on Aug. 2, following the annual Hall of Fame Banquet, in the museum's atrium. The event is open to the public at no cost.

The Big 3' consists of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the National Intercollegiate Soccer Official Association and the American Youth Soccer Organization. NSCAA inductees are Indiana University men's soccer coach Jerry Yeagley and promoter Paul Sanderson of Suffield Academy (Conn.).

The NISOA will honor Donald Dennison and John Buckley. Joel Mark and Marilyn MacDonald represent the AYSO honorees.

The event is part of the 2008 Induction Weekend, which runs Aug. 1-3. Anson Dorrance and Hugo Perez will be inducted into the Soccer Hall at noon Aug. 3, when Ike Kuhns will be honored as the Colin Jose Media Award winner. Oneonta State men's soccer coach Iain Byrne will conduct summer soccer camps at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta from Aug. 4-8. Byrne will be assisted by his staff and players.

The Dragon Camp, for youths ages 6-14, runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. The Elite Camp, which is for high school players, runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. Both camps are open to boys and girls.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Track meets continue Aug. 12

Oneonta State and Hurley's Heroes Track Club of Oneonta will conclude its series of Twilight Track & Field Meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 12.

The meet features competition in the 50-meter dash, the 800, the mile and the 3,000 for athletes ages 14 and older, as well as the 100, 200 and 400 for all ages. A high jump competition for ages 14 and older also will take place if facilities are available.

There is no cost to participate. Athletes should be properly dressed to compete.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}O-Tigers 5K set for Aug. 12

A.O. Fox Hospital, the Oneonta Tigers and the Delsego Roadrunners Club will host the ninth annual Oneonta Tigers 5K road race at 6 p.m. Aug. 12.

Part of A.O. Fox Hospital Night at Damaschke Field, the race will start an hour before Oneonta's New York-Penn League game against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The event starts at the Damaschke Field box office and ends with a stretch along the outfield warning track.

Each race entrant will receive two tickets to the game. The first 200 to register will receive T-shirts.

Author Fred Glueckstein will appear at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown for a discussion and book-signing at 1 p.m. Aug. 14.

Glueckstein, a Maryland resident, is the author of "Mickey Mantle: Rookie in Pinstripes." He is a columnist for PhelpsSports.com, an all-equestrian sports service, and the Equestrian Network Magazine. Glueckstein also wrote "The '27 Yankees and Of Men, Women and Horses."

{"HeadlineLight14"/}O-State to host dinner Aug. 16

Oneonta State will host its first "Dining with Champions," a dinner in celebration of the community, at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at its Alumni Field House.

Tickets cost $100 apiece. All proceeds will support student-athlete travel initiatives and facility enhancements.

O-State has designated several community members as "champions" who will serve as table hosts for the event. Seating at specific tables is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
