Former Sidney football standout Pat Simonds received preseason all-Patriot League second-team honors as a wide receiver for the Colgate football team, the college announced last week.
Simonds will enter his junior season this fall. He helped Sidney win the Class C state championship in 2005. Teammate Nick Hennessey, a senior offensive tackle, received second-team preseason All-America accolades from the 2008 Phil Steele's Football Magazine.
The Raiders also placed senior tackle Steve Jonas, running back Jordan Scott and defensive back Wayne Moten on the all-Patriot League first team. Simonds joined offensive guard Rich Rosabella, defensive tackle Paul Mancuso and defensive back Mike Barry on the league's second team. Colgate begins preseason camp Aug. 3. The Raiders open their 2008 schedule at Stony Brook at 6 p.m. Aug. 30.

Bassett Healthcare finished first in the co-ed large team division of the Boilermaker 15K Corporate Cup on July 13 in Utica.
Led by Bassett physical therapist Mike Rutledge's finish in 52 minutes, 19 seconds, Bassett's 20 team members finished in an average time of 1 hour, 9 minutes, 35 seconds. Rutledge, 40, finished 61st out of 9,773 runners and sixth out of 723 men in the 40-44 age-group.
Chris Mason, a track standout at SUNY Delhi, earned the top local finish with a time of 49:47. Auburn resident Mason, 19, placed 26th overall and first in the 15-19 age-group.

Roberto's Kids, a program assisted by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, is accepting donations of baseball equipment for underprivileged youths in Latin America and Africa. The equipment must be new or in very good condition.
Retired Opportunities for Otsego employee and former Oneonta city alderman Stephen Pindar co-founded the program with Pennsylvanian Steve Tremetiere. The two work with the sons of late Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, Luis and Roberto Clemente Jr., as well as the Baseball Hall.

Delhi Pee-Wee Football will hold sign-ups from 5:30-6:30 p.m. July 30 at the Delhi American Legion Pavilion.
