Late goal lifts Unatego

Staff Report

Dillion Maxson's goal with 10 minutes left Wednesday lifted visiting Unatego to a 2-1 Midstate Athletic Conference boys soccer victory over Afton.

Maxson scored from 16 yards.

"We were back on our heels," Afton coach Ron Rapp said. "(Maxson) was wide open and had a good look, and had time to shoot. He kept his head down and drilled it."

The Spartans' Dan Kleeschulte gave Unatego an early 1-0 lead off an assist from Maxson.

Afton (0-1) tied it on a penalty kick by Corey Westfall with 12 minutes left in the first half.

Unatego enjoyed a 24-7 advantage in shots but difficulty beating Crimson Knights goalie Jacob Arnold, who made 18 saves.

"He did awesome," Rapp said of Arnold. "He had some point-blank saves today."
