Senior Mike Guerriere's first appearance in Sidney football uniform resulted in 160 yards rushing on six carries in the Warriors' 33-7 non-league victory over visiting Mount Markham on Friday.
Guerriere, Sidney's all-time leading scorer in soccer with 91 goals, had scoring runs of 40 and 63 yards in Sidney's season-opener.
"Wow," Sidney coach Jeff Matthews said of Guerriere's performance, which also included three extra points. "Aaron (Wood) was our workhorse and ran extremely hard, but Mike had some real pretty runs."
Guerriere quit Sidney's soccer team last fall.
Sidney, coming off a 3-6 season, scored on all three of its first-quarter possessions against a Mount Markham squad that lost to eventual state champion Bishop Ludden in the Section Three Class C final last season.
After Sidney's defense forced a three-and-out to start the game, Wood capped Sidney's opening drive with a 3-yard scoring run.
Guerriere's 40-yard TD run came on a sweep and his ensuing extra point gave the Warriors a 13-0 lead.
Wood, who finished with 105 rushing yards, then scored on a 40-yard run late in the first quarter. Guerriere's PAT made it 20-0.
Matthews credited offensive linemen Tyler Mason, Dustin Babcock, Kyle Baldwin, Pat Wright and Ryan Robertson for helping the Warriors to 323 rushing yards.
"It's very difficult for teams that have not played against us before to have a good grasp of what we're trying to do up front," Matthews said. "Our line did a nice job."
Wood caught a 23-yard scoring pass from Dylan Umbra in the second quarter and Guerriere had his 63-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to make it 33-0.
Sidney plays at Delhi a week from Saturday.
Also Friday, Bainbridge-Guilford beat visiting Unadilla Valley/Edmeston, 14-7.
