{"HeadlineLight14"/}Wambach to appear at Soccer Hall

U.S. Women's National Team forward Abby Wambach will appear at the National Soccer Hall of Fame at 7 p.m. Sept. 27, the Oneonta shrine announced Wednesday. Pittsford native Wambach will discuss the gold medal the U.S. women won while she was sidelined with a broken left leg during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

Wambach ranks fifth on the all-time U.S. women's scoring list with 99 goals. She won an Olympic gold in 2004 (Athens), a Women's United Soccer Association title with the Washington Freedom in 2003 and an NCAA Division I crown with the University of Florida in 1998.

Wambach has 99 goals in 127 games, marking the best strike rate in U.S. women's soccer history. She broke her leg in two places during the final pre-Olympics warm-up match for the U.S. this past June.

The Hall announced Wednesday that Wambach expects to play in Women's Professional Soccer, a league that is slated to debut this spring. The Hall will be open from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sept. 27.

The Wambach event is included at no extra charge with a paid museum admission.
