September 09, 2008 04:00 am Chip Taylor's goal off a short pass from Mike Cagganello provided the winning goal three minutes into overtime as Cherry Valley-Springfield defeated host Schenevus, 2-1, in Tri-Valley League boys soccer Monday. Taylor's goal came on a 10-yard shot. The Patriots, the defending Section Four Class D and Tri-Valley League champions, had an 18-2 advantage in shots. "Even though we were outshot, I have to say their sweeper, Jake Hanlon, was so fast," Schenevus coach John Tauzel said. "He would cut us off before we could get shots off. We never could get a good shot because he is some kind of fast. The stats don't really show how much we pressured (CV-S)." Schenevus' Andrew Beams tied the score 1:15 into the second half on a direct kick from 25 yards. Nate Schafsteck scored off an assist from Reilly See to give CV-S a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Schenevus goalie Mike Miner made 12 saves. "He took some hard, physical blows and made some excellent saves," Tauzel said of Miner. "It was a fun game to watch." The Dragons (2-4, 1-1) play host to Gilbertsville-Mount Upton on Thursday.
