{"HeadlineLight14"/}Baseball Hall blood drive set

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will hold a blood drive from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in the museum's Education Gallery.

Blood donors will receive free admission to the Hall on Saturday. Donors who own museum memberships will receive a gift. Those who have not donated whole blood within the last 56 days are eligible to participate Saturday.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Olympian to visit O-State

Three-time Olympian and motivational speaker Suzy Favor-Hamilton is scheduled to appear at Oneonta State on Monday, the college announced Tuesday. Favor-Hamilton will speak to various groups on campus throughout the day before joining O-State's varsity athletes at 6:30 p.m. at Alumni Field House.

A middle-distance runner, Favor-Hamilton appeared in the 1992, 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. She earned 23 Big Ten Championships, 14 All-American honors and nine NCAA Division I titles at the University of Wisconsin. Favor-Hamilton also won the 1990 Honda-Broderick Cup Award as the top U.S. female college athlete.

A 1990 Wisconsin graduate, Favor-Hamilton moved to Oregon to train for a professional running career. She won seven national championships, broke numerous U.S. records and was named the USA Track & Field Distance Runner of the Year in 2000.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Football competition set for Sept. 20

The City of Oneonta Department of Recreation will hold an NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 20 at Damaschke Field.

Youths born from 1993-2000 are eligible to compete in the rain-or-shine event. There is no cost to participate.

Local winners advance to sectional competition for a chance to win a trip to a Giants or Jets home game and possibly an NFL divisional playoff game. One boy and one girl in each of the four age-groups will move on to sectional competition.

Pre-registration is recommended, although registration will be accepted on the day of the event. Birth certificates must be presented at the time of registration.

{"HeadlineLight14"/}Golf tourney set for Sept. 20

The fifth annual RDC Golf Tournament will start at 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Ouleout Golf Course in Franklin.

Cost for the captain-and-crew event is $240 per team. The winning team will receive $400 and the runners-up will get $250. All proceeds will benefit youth sports in Unadilla.

Prizes will be awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin and skins. The event also will feature a raffle and a $10,000 hole-in-one hole.

The Otego Rod & Gun Club will host a 16-inch big ball benefit tournament on Oct. 4 at the Otego Little League fields.

Cost is $150 per team. All proceeds will benefit the club. Men's, women's and co-ed teams are eligible to participate.

Jim Dillenbeck and Vic VanSteenburg won the Susquehanna Bass Association's Reel Men Fishing Guides Bass Tournament last Saturday on Canadarago Lake.

The duo filled the limit with five largemouths weighing 16.61 pounds. Jim Clement and Bob Luther finished a close second with five fish weighing 16.56 pounds. Mike Murphy and Brad Dick placed third (five fish, 16.32 pounds). Lou Falvo and Anthony Konchar rounded out the top four in the 25-boat field at 16.16 pounds.

Murphy caught the lunker of the tournament, a 19-inch largemouth bass at 4.79 pounds. Rob DeMott caught the big smallmouth, at 18 inches and 3.58 pounds.

The SBA will host the Oneonta, Cooperstown Pennysaver Open from 6:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sunday on Otsego Lake.

The Milford Community Bowling League is looking for a four-man team to complete its Wednesday Night League. The Oneonta Tennis Club will begin weekend junior clinics at 3 p.m. Sunday. Sessions will run Sundays from 3-4 p.m. (open to any level) and from 4:30-6 p.m. (tournament only). Cost is $75 for the five-week session, which is only for members.

The Oneonta Board of Women's Basketball Officials and Board 46 are looking for new members this year.

These boards provide referees for area girls and boys modified, junior varsity and varsity basketball games.

Classes for new officials begin soon. The first meeting is Monday at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta.
