SK boys win battle of soccer unbeatens

In a matchup of area boys soccer unbeatens, South Kortright received a first-half goal from Eric Burns to beat Laurens, 1-0, in the championship game of the Stamford Mayor's Cup on Saturday.

Burns' 15-yard goal with 22 minutes left in the opening half came off a rebound in a cluster of bodies.

"I think it was a good test for both teams," Rams coach Bob VanValkenburgh said. "The teams were evenly matched and it was a good early-season game for both of us."

The Rams (7-0), who host Hunter-Tannersville today, held an 8-6 advantage in shots.

Laurens (5-1) received five saves from Aaron Laing.

Peter Fabrykiewicz scored Andes' first goal and assisted on its second to lead the Mountaineers to victory in the fifth-place game of the Stamford Mayor's Cup.

Fabrykiewicz's first goal came 9 1/2 minutes into play. He also assisted the first of three goals by Ethan Berghammer about 1:30 later. Corey Barrett and Eric Reed also scored for Andes (4-2), which hosts Gilboa on Thursday.

Eric Deemer, Aaron Foreman and Dan Dailey had assists for Oneonta, which fell to Bronxville, 3-1, on Saturday.

Joseph scored Saturday for the Yellowjackets, who received nine saves from Chris Hayen. Oneonta (2-4-1) plays at Seton Catholic Central at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Two of Josh Smith's three goals came in the first 10 minutes Sunday, leading Margaretville to victory in a Group 11 second-round game of the Hall of Fame Cup. Smith scored from 18 yards off an assist from Marcus Moore to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead 6 minutes in.

Sam Mendoza and Jake Brophy also scored for the Blue Devils, who outshot Worcester, 28-9.

Margaretville (4-2) lost, 4-1, Saturday to eventual Group 11 champion S.S. Seward. Moore scored off an assist from Cody Fronckowiak in the second half.

Worcester (0-5-1) lost to Elizabethtown, 3-0, on Saturday. Seward defeated Elizabethtown on Sunday.

Chip Taylor's goal with 6:48 left in the second overtime gave Cherry Valley-Springfield a victory in the final of its tournament.

Taylor dribbled down the right wing and cut toward the middle before scoring inside the far post for the Patriots, who held a 19-5 advantage in shots.

"We dominated," said Patriots coach Terri Adams, whose team won the Section Four Class D and Tri-Valley League titles last season. "We moved the ball around nicely, we just didn't finish on some of the ones we should have."

Seth Drugatz gave CV-S a 1-0 lead with 27:29 left in the first half. He scored off a rebound after David Adams' shot deflected off the goalie. Cameron French tied the score for Sharon Springs with 8:50 remaining in regulation.

Elliott See, who scored twice in CV-S' 2-1 first-round win over Madison on Saturday, earned MVP honors. CV-S' Scott Sheldon, Adams and Ethan Burst were named to the all-tournament team. The Patriots (6-1) play at Milford on Tuesday.

Delhi (5-0) outshot the Family School, 18-7. The Bulldogs host Sidney today.

With 18:50 left, Dustin Keesler scored on an 18-yard shot from the top-right corner of the box to snap a 2-all tie as Downsville won the consolation of its tournament. Keelser had possession with his back to the goal before turning and scoring inside the far post.

Sean Abrams and Colin Norwood each scored before the game was 10 minutes old to give the Eagles (2-3) a 2-0 lead. Walton (2-3) answered with a first-half goal by Tyler Magnis and a tying goal by Brennon Chambers five minutes into the second half.

Starr scored off a corner kick by volleying a bouncing ball in the penalty box. Windham, which held a 30-7 shot advantage, plays host Hunter-Tannersville in the championship at 4 p.m. Saturday. H-T received a first-round bye when Onteora dropped out.

Loudonville Christian Academy will take Onteora's place in the consolation and meet Coleman at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Warriors, who received five saves from Zhenya Doolan, host Margaretville at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
