Edmeston's dominance in girls soccer continued this weekend as the Panthers won the Group 18 championship in the Hall of Fame Cup.
The Panthers (10-0), ranked second in the state in Class D, backed up a 4-1 victory over 11th-ranked New Lebanon on Saturday with a 5-0 win against Margaretville on Sunday at the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
"We're looking to teammates, seeing the open person and everyone is playing their spots and doing what they're supposed to be doing," Edmeston coach Melanie Mumbulo said of her team's fast start. "We've moved people into different spots and they're playing well no matter what position they're playing."
Kori Hamm had three goals against New Lebanon, and a goal and an assist against Margaretville. For the season, the junior has 20 goals and seven assists, both team highs.
Stefanie Cornnell had two goals and an assist, and Morghen Axtell had a goal and an assist against Margaretville.
"They move the ball well," Margaretville coach Toni Smith of the Panthers, who've outscored their opposition, 43-1, this season. "It's a good, solid team."
Edmeston allowed its first goal of the season in the win over New Lebanon. Jessica Colon converted a long, direct kick that took a high bounce in the box over Panthers goalie Susanna Johnson and into the goal. It made the score 2-1.
But Hamm scored five minutes later. Edmeston, the defending Section Four Class D and Tri-Valley League champions, plays at Milford on Tuesday.
