Long shot sinks OHS girls

Staff Report

Miranda DeSanctis converted a 35-yard shot with 4 minutes, 15 seconds left in the first overtime to give Seton Catholic Central a 1-0 Southern Tier Athletic Conference girls soccer victory at Oneonta High on Monday night.

"It was a good shot, but normally we're in position to not allow that shot," said OHS Jerry Mackey, who added the play started after the Yellowjackets failed to win a 50-50 ball at midfield. DeSanctis' high shot went over OHS goalie Breelin Shea.

OHS held an 11-6 advantage in shots and took three more corner kicks than the Saints.

"Monica (Jones) served some tremendous corner kicks that we should have finished," Mackey said of his team's 10 corner kicks. "We're disappointed because we felt we had the better of play, but all that matters is the 1-0 score."

Jones and Chacha Naito had shots carom off the cross bar, and Sienna Wisse hit a post for the Jackets, who have lost two of their last three games.

Shea finished with five saves for OHS (8-4, 7-3), which plays host to Johnson City on Wednesday.

Redskins coach Frank Miosek credited the play of fullbacks Nick Summers, Brandon Lane and Ryan Davine.

"Mack (Curran) made two saves early in the game," said Miosek, whose team had a 15-9 advantage in shots. "The defense came up strong the rest of the game and kept the ball
