Oneonta girls shut down JC

Staff Report

Monica Jones scored in the first half and assisted Chacha Naito's second-half goal, leading Oneonta High's girls to a 2-0 Southern Tier Athletic Conference soccer victory over visiting Johnson City on Wednesday.

Nora Walker set up Jones' goal off a restart with 9 minutes, 49 seconds left in the first half.

Naito's goal came a minute into the second half.

Oneonta, which beat the Wildcats, 7-3, to open the season, held a 15-1 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Yellowjackets (9-4) travel to STAC Central Division-leading Maine-Endwell on Friday.

Ben Resnick finished second for the Redskins (12-2). He completed the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 50 seconds _ 21 seconds behind Westmoreland's Peter Donnelly.

Cooperstown's girls, who were incomplete, were led by Nichole Wischoff and Sarah Fanion, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Wischoff crossed in 22:45, a second faster than Fanion.

The Redskins run at Ilion on Oct. 8.
