CV-S, Edmeston girls stay perfect

Victories by East Division champion Cherry Valley-Springfield and West Division winner Edmeston on Wednesday set up a matchup of unbeaten Tri-Valley League girls soccer teams Friday at CV-S.

The visiting Patriots (13-0, 10-0) defeated Schenevus, 3-1, on Wednesday behind goals from Morgan VanAlstine, Courtney VanBrink and Ksenia Hanlon. The Panthers (16-0, 11-0) received two goals from junior Kori Hamm in a 3-0 defeat of host Laurens.

Friday's game will serve as a preview of the Tri-Valley League final Oct. 18 at the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

CV-S 3, Schenevus 1

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead when Jessica Bentley scored off a rebound with 26 minutes, 21 seconds left in the first half. VanBrink tied it a minute later, and VanAlstine scored the go-ahead goal with 29:30 left off a rebound from close range.

Schenevus (6-7-2) hosts Worcester on Saturday.

Amanda Belden's goal 10 minutes into the first half gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

The first of Hamm's goals came 1 1/2 minutes into the second half. Hamm has 37 goals this season _ 13 behind the Section Four single-season record set by 1996 Stamford graduate and Oneonta State women's soccer coach Liz McGrail.

"We played hard, but they're a well-organized team," Laurens coach Amy DuCharme said. "They're a very aggressive team, they really switch nicely and control the ball very well."

Laurens (5-9) is at Morris on Friday.

Dakota Hanley turned and sent a left-footed shot from 25 yards on the right side inside the far post with 3:54 to play as host Franklin won in the Tri-Valley League.

Franklin's girls wore pink jerseys to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Purple Devils (9-6-2, 6-5-1) play next in sectionals.

Danielle Gravel and Stephanie Meno combined for five goals and four assists to lead Sidney to a Midstate Athletic Conference win at home.

Gravel had three goals and two assists for the Warriors, who tied Unatego, 1-1, on Sept. 16.

Meno scored the go-ahead goal five minutes into the second half for Sidney, which scored four goals after halftime.

Ashley Mahlmeister had an assist for the Warriors (12-1-1, 10-1-1), who are tied atop Division I with Greene (10-3-1, 10-1-1). Sidney hosts Delhi at 6 p.m. Friday.

Sarah Mannina scored for Unatego, which received nine saves from Gabi May.

Emily Sugar had a goal and made five saves for UV (8-6-2, 6-4-2), which hosts Walton at 7 p.m. Friday in its homecoming game.

Laura Harmon scored twice in the final four minutes, but visiting Cooperstown fell in the Center State Conference.

Harmon's goal with four minutes remaining cut the Redskins' deficit to 3-2. Mount Markham's Amanda Drake answered with the second of her two goals a minute later.

Harmon then scored on a shot inside the penalty box with a minute left.

"We had a lot of opportunities, but we were unlucky," said Cooperstown coach Jennifer Pindar, whose 8-8 team hosts Sherburne-Earlville on Friday.

Laura Rowley also scored for Redskins.
