Delhi runner sets record

Staff Report

SUNY Delhi cross country runner Chris Mason set a course record in the 11th annual Bronco Weekday 5K Classic at the Delhi College Golf Course on Wednesday.

Mason crossed in 16 minutes, 9.5 seconds for the Broncos, breaking the previous record of 16:12.2, set by SUNY Delhi graduate Justin Wood in 2003. Wood, a Walton graduate, is in his first year as the women's cross country and men's and women's track coach at SUNY Delhi.

Nick Pampena finished second in 16:33 for Oneonta State, which won the team title with 25 points. Delhi finished second with 37 points.

On the women's side, SUNY Delhi graduate Jestina Dawson won in 20:59.

Celia Alterio placed second in 21:21 to lead O-State, which won the team title with 22 points _ 41 better than runner-up Broome. Danielle Metz finished 10th in 22:47 to lead the Broncos, who finished third with 66 points.

Hawks' O-line recognized

Hartwick College's offensive line of left tackle P.J. DiGati, left guard J.J. Ambrosio, center Andrew Murphy, right guard Ryan Chronister and right tackle Gary Chrys was honored as D3football.com's national team of the week.

Seniors DiGati, Ambrosio and Murphy, junior Chronister and freshman Chrys helped the Hawks amass 487 yards of offense in Hartwick's 31-28 victory at 10th-ranked St. John Fisher on Saturday.

Unatego graduate Tosh DeMulder ran for 110 yards, marking the first time in 18 games that Fisher allowed 100 or more yards to an opposing running back.

Hartwick (2-1, 1-1 Empire 8), which allowed two sacks to the Cardinals, hosts Alfred (2-0, 2-0) at 2 p.m. Saturday.
