Jeter spikes, Ramirez bat on display at Baseball Hall

Staff Report

Several landmark artifacts from the 2008 Major League Baseball season are on display in the Today's Game exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Cooperstown shrine announced Wednesday.

The exhibit, which includes dozens of other items from this season, features artifacts from the following players:

Johnny Damon: Bat used to hit home run during last game at Yankee Stadium.

Derek Jeter: Spikes worn when he set record for most hits at Yankee Stadium; bat from final homestand at Yankee Stadium.

Nate McLouth: Pirates' stars-and-stripes logo cap worn in honor of Sept. 11 remembrance.

Jose Molina: Spikes worn when he hit last home run at Yankee Stadium.

Manny Ramirez: Bat used to hit 500th home run.

Francisco Rodriguez: Game balls from his 57th and 58th saves; Angels' jersey he wore during record-setting 58th save of season.

John Smoltz: Braves jersey worn when he earned 3,000th career strikeout.

Ichiro Suzuki: Batting helmet worn during record-tying 200th hit of the season.

The exhibit also features a ticket from the final game at Yankee Stadium.

The Today's Game exhibit is available for viewing with the purchase of a regular admission ticket.

The Hall also announced it has obtained the following items from this season that will be on display soon:

Tim Lincecum's Giants jersey from his final start this year; Mike Mussina's cap from his 20th win of season; Joba Chamberlain cap; and umpire Brian Gorman's cap and shirt from final game at Shea Stadium (Gorman's father, Tom Gorman, umpired first game at Shea Stadium).

The Hall also has the bats used by Marlins infielders Jorge Cantu, Mike Jacobs, Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla to hit home runs following their 25th homers of the season. This feat marked the first time members of the same infield hit 25 homers apiece in one season.

The Hall said it expects to obtain artifacts from the 2008 postseason as well. These items will go on display about two weeks after the World Series ends.
