Alex Schmidt scored off a rebound with 49 seconds left in the second overtime Tuesday to give Gilbertsville-Mount Upton a 1-0 Tri-Valley League boys soccer victory over visiting Laurens.
Cody Hall took a shot off the right side to the far corner, but Laurens goalie Aaron Laing (four saves) made a stop. The ball bounced left to an unguarded Schmidt, who shot to the right for the winner. G-MU coach Mark Luettger said Laing got a hand on the rebound.
"It was a really nice game," Luettger said. "It was good competition. The kids looked like they were having fun and competing hard."
Laurens had a 15-10 advantage in shots. Andrew Delmar made 12 saves to earn the shutout for G-MU (11-5, 5-5), which is off until sectionals.
