Grand night for B-G's Ross

Staff Report

Senior Dustin Ross ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns and eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing for the second straight season in Bainbridge-Guilford's 24-0 Section Four Football Conference non-division victory over visiting Seton Catholic Central on Friday.

Ross finished the season with 1,018 yards in helping the Bobcats to a 5-4 record.

"Our line just controlled their line," B-G coach Tim Mattingly said. "Our backs hit the holes and we just nickel-and-dimed them all the way down the field."

Brad Hurlburt, who had 101 yards on the ground on 16 attempts, capped B-G's opening 11-play, 80-yard drive with a 3-yard scoring run.

The speedy Ross finished the Bobcats' second drive with a 65-yard touchdown run. Ross went off tackle to the right, made a defender miss and at the 20, he cut back across the field, avoiding three more defenders en route to the end zone.

"It was a heck of a run," Mattingly said.

Ross' 19-yard touchdown in the second quarter and Justin Pepper's two-point conversion capped the scoring.

"It was a good way to end the season and a great send-off for our seniors," Mattingly said. "Obviously, we'd much rather end the season at 5-4 than 4-5."

Oneonta High fell, 21-14, at Vestal on Friday. No other information was available.
