Mike Burns, a two-time All-American at Hartwick College, is among 24 on the National Soccer Hall of Fame Player Ballot, which was released by the Oneonta-based shrine Monday.
Burns, who earned All-American honors for the Hawks in 1990 and 1991, played for the U.S. Men's National Team and in Major League Soccer. He played in 75 international games for the U.S., including two games in the 1998 World Cup and 11 games in World Cup qualifying in 1996 and 1997.
He was also a member of the 1994 World Cup team, but did not play.
Burns also played seven seasons in MLS between 1996-2002 for New England, San Jose and Kansas City.
Three new players are on this year's ballot in former U.S. National Team members Chris Henderson and John O'Brien and former MLS player Eduardo Hurtado.
Thomas Dooley, John Doyle, Dominic Kinnear and Mike Sorber _ all former members of the U.S. Men's National Team _ are in their final year of eligibility. Should they not earn election, they will be on the Veteran Player Preliminary Ballot in 2011.
Jeff Agoos and Joy Fawcett were elected to the Hall of Fame on the Player Ballot last year, with Agoos being named on 108 of 159 ballots for 67.9 percent of the vote.
Fawcett earned 106 votes for 66.7 percent, the minimum required to receive Hall of Fame status.
Holdover Preki Radosavljevic was third on last year's ballot with 96 votes (60.4 percent). Dooley received 85 votes (53.5 percent), and Marco Etcheverry (78, 49.1) rounded out the top five.
Etcheverry is on this year's ballot and is joined by Mauricio Cienfuegos, Raul Diaz Arce, Robin Fraser, Roy Lassiter, Shannon MacMillan, Joe-Max Moore, Victor Nogueira, Peter Nowak, Cindy Parlow, Earnie Stewart, Steve Trittschuh, Carlos Valderrama, Tisha Venturini-Hoch and Peter Vermes.
Voters in the player election include selected members of the media, Hall of Famers, past and present U.S. Men's and Women's National Team coaches, MLS and WPS coaches with a tenure of four or more years, and a select group of soccer administrators. The ballot deadline is Nov. 19 with the results announced in early 2010.
