South Kortright graduate Jessica Laing converted a layup with 15 seconds left to snap a tie and visiting Cortland State went on to defeat Oneonta State, 67-64, in a SUNY Athletic Conference women's basketball game Tuesday.
Laing, a junior who led the Rams to a Class D state championship in 2006, finished with a game-high 17 points.
Her final basket broke a 64-64 tie. Laing, a 5-foot-11 forward, is SK's all-time leading scorer for basketball and earned Daily Star Player of the Year honors in 2006.
O-State's Megan Bucci (seven points and seven rebounds) made a turnover after Laing's basket. O-State then fouled Maggie Byrne, who went 1-for-2 from the line with eight seconds left to cap the scoring.
O-State tied the score with 25 seconds to play on a three-point play by Samantha Szkotak, who made up a layup off a pass by Milford graduate Shannon Weir and was fouled.
Weir, a senior who was named The Daily Star's Player of the Year in 2003, had 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Weir's three-pointer with 1:14 left pulled O-State to 64-61.
Bainbridge-Guilford graduate Jennifer Patten contributed 10 points for Cortland (5-1, 1-0), which received two points from Unadilla Valley grad Theresa Lazarus.
