Relay team sets Wick record

Hartwick College set a program record Friday during the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the Conroe Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.

Senior Kenny Kleso, sophomore Miles Blaney, freshman Cory Perez and junior Brad Ranson placed sixth in their 12-team heat during the men's 800-yard free relay finals, with a time of 6 minutes, 45.14 seconds.

According to results posted on the website, that time ranked 14th out of 20 squads overall, earning six team points for the Hawks.

Johns Hopkins won the event in an NCAA D-III record time of 6:29.27.

The four-day championships end Saturday. Kleso will compete int he 200 breaststroke and join Lydon Schultz, Blaney and Ranson in the 400 medley relay. Schultz also will swim in the 100 free, as will Jade Woodend for Hartwick's women.

Oneonta State's Jermaine Miller will compete in 3-meter diving Saturday as well.


O-State loses opener

Oneonta State fell, 8-1, to Plymouth State in its season opener, a National Training Center spring game in Clermont, Fla.

No other information was available at press time.

O-State also was slated to play Macalester on Friday afternoon, but no information was posted on either of their websites as of 10 p.m. Friday.

Oneonta will play NTC spring games through Tuesday. Its next game is 11 a.m. Saturday against Amherst College.


Cobleskill 24, Green Mountain 3

SUNY Cobleskill scored 10 straight goals Thursday to open its non-conference rout of Green Mountain College on the turf at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s ECAV Stadium.

Senior Dan Scott finished with four goals and five assists for the Fighting Tigers (2-0), who received two goals and six assists from freshman Rob Neubert.

Senior Mike Janavey and junior Josh France contributed three goals apiece for Cobleskill, who received four saves from sophomore starting goalie Eric Randazzo.

The Eagles fell to 0-3.

Cobleskill visits Mitchell College for a non-conference game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
