SUNY Cobleskill’s Mitchell Tomaszkiewicz earned Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year honors from the North Eastern Athletic Conference on Tuesday, three days after leading the Fighting Tigers to their fourth straight conference championship.

Cobleskill scored 34 points Saturday to win the 2012 title in the 12-team field at Lorimer Park in Abington, Pa. The Fighting Tigers finished with seven All-NEAC runners, led by sophomore Rebekah Johnson. Cobleskill’s athlete of the week, Johnson finished second out of 87 runners with a time of 21 minutes, 55 seconds on the hilly, 5-kilometer course.

“This award really belongs to the 35 young men and women who ran in our program this year and to a number of people who work and support us behind the scenes,” said three-time NEAC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year Tomaszkiewicz, who also led Cobleskill’s men to their second straight NEAC title and their fourth in five seasons Saturday.

Tomaszkiewicz has won six NEAC Coach of the Year honors since the Fighting Tigers joined the conference in 2008. His 20-year career includes 82 invitational titles, 12 conference championships, two NJCAA Region III Championships and the 2000 NJCAA Division III Women’s National Championship.

Cobleskill’s men and women will compete in the NCAA North Atlantic Division III Regional Championship, which runs Nov. 10 at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester.

Swimming

The NEAC also named Cobleskill freshmen Rachael Degnan and Michael Edwards as its Swimmers of the Week.

Degnan led Cobleskill’s women to a 145-63 season-opening victory over visiting Bard on Friday, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:31.37), the 200 individual medley (2:32.30), and the 100 butterfly (1:06.93).

Edwards also won three individual events, guiding the men to a 125-79 defeat of Bard.

He placed first in the 100 (1:12.18), the 50 breaststroke (33.20), and the 200 IM (2:25.43).

Cobleskill will visit Bard on Sunday.

Equestrian

Senior Amanda Bucci won Novice Equitation on the Flat during Saturday’s season-opening show for the Cobleskill hunt seat equestrian team.

Sophomore Susan Day qualified for IHSA Region III Championships in Walk/Trot/Canter for the Fighting Tigers, who finished the Hartwick Show at Hunter’s Reins in Otego with 28 points to place fourth out of 10 teams.

Cobleskill will compete Nov. 10-11 at Morrisville State.

Hartwick College

Hartwick College named senior women’s soccer forward Emily Thorndike and women’s volleyball junior setter Britney Lintner as its Hawks of the Week.

Thorndike scored in a Saturday’s 1-0 victory over regionally ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as the Hawks finished the regular season 8-8-1. Her seventh goal of the season, which is tied for the team-high, came in the 75th minute from a difficult angle. Thorndike also had a goal and an assist in an 8-2 victory over SUNYIT on Oct. 22.

Lintner amassed 135 assists and 13 digs in a 3-1 week for Hartwick volleyball. She started with 33 assists, five digs and two aces in a 3-1 win over Cazenovia, then had 28 assists and six digs on Thursday against Oneonta State. On Saturday, Lintner helped the Hawks to wins over CCNY (3-0) and Sage (3-1), with 32 and 42 assists, respectively.

Lintner has 742 assists this season, which marks the ninth-highest total in program history. Her 1,454 assists all-time ranks fourth.
