Sidney volleyball falls in quarterfinal

Sidney girls defeated Watkins Glen in five games in a Section Four Class C first-round volleyball match before falling in four games to top-seeded Waverly in a quarterfinal Wednesday at Waverly.

Jillian Young had six aces, eight kills and eight digs to lead the eighth-seeded Warriors to a 17-25, 25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 25-22 victory over ninth-seeded Watkins Glen. Paige Redmond contributed 27 assists and five digs. Megan Rivers and Tori Seymour had eight kills and seven aces, respectively, for Sidney.

The Wolverines (17-1) recovered from a 25-15 loss in the first game to win the final three by scores of 25-14, 25-19, 25-14.

Young again paced Sidney with eight digs, five kills and four aces. Taylor Krom had six kills and six digs, and Redmond finished with 12 assists and three digs. Seymour contributed five digs and two kills.

Jordan Raupers had 13 assists, 10 kills, six digs and six aces to lead Waverly, which advanced to pool play today at Horseheads.

Sidney finishes its season at 12-6.

Tioga 3, B-G 0

Morgan Bullis had five blocks, three assists, three kills and three digs, but visiting Bainbridge-Guilford lost, 25-18, 25-9, 25-15, in a Section Four Class D quarterfinal.

Cassie Safford contributed two aces and two kills for the sixth-seeded Bobcats, who finished their season at 13-6.

Third-seeded Tioga (13-4) received eight kills and four aces from Bry Godfrey. The Tigers will play second-seeded Southern Cayuga in a semifinal at 4:15 today at Horseheads. Southern Cayuga advanced with a 3-1 win over visiting Oxford.
