Youths advance in Pitch, Hit & Run

The City of Oneonta Recreation Department crowned eight overall champions and eight other category winners during its local qualifier for the MLB Pitch, Hit & Run competition, which ran April 26 at Ted Christman Field in Neahwa Park.

All 16 area youths advanced to sectional competition, which is set for May 19 at Damaschke Field. Other local qualifiers from throughout the Southern Tier will compete in the sectional event.

Sectional gold medalists will have a chance to qualify for a team championship. Oneonta sectional champions must score in the top three among all Yankees or Mets gold medalists to qualify for that team championship. MLB will assign the Damaschke Field event as a Yankees or Mets sectional in the days leading up to the Oneonta sectional.
