Area College Honors


Fox finished second in the discus (146-7).


SUNY Cobleskill named senior Marten Peterson and freshman Princess Joefield its outstanding male and female athletes of the year, respectively, as the school announced its awards for 2012-13 academic year.

Peterson ran cross-country for four seasons and is closing out his fourth season on the track team this spring. He’ll run in the 800 meters at the ECAC Division III meet May 16 and 17 at Springfield College.

Peterson holds the school’s 800 record of 1:56.06.

As a bio-technology major, Peterson has a cumulative GPA of 3.69. He was also named the college’s top male scholar-athlete.

Joefield qualified to compete in the 200, the 400, the 100 and 400 hurdles, and the shot put for the ECAC meet.

She holds Cobleskill records in the heptathlon, and the 100 and 400 hurdles.

The Fighting Tigers also recognized women’s basketball player Heidi Anderson as its top female scholar-athlete.

Cross country and track athletes Joseph Marotta and Christine Ilowiecki earned sportsmanship awards.
