Sidney boys win two titles at Parkhurst

Unatego 11, Johnstown 4

Phil Youngs tripled, doubled, singled and drove in three runs Saturday to lead Unatego to a non-league road win.

Tanner Winchester and Kellen Komenda had two hits apiece for the Spartans, whose starting pitcher — freshman Josh Feyerabend — improved to 5-0 this season.

Unatego (16-3) will play Sidney for the Midstate Athletic Conference 1-4 Tournament championship at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Afton. Unatego finished atop the MAC standings with an 11-0 conference record. Sidney went 9-2 in the MAC to place second.

Saturday cancellations

• Delhi will play Deposit in a MAC 9-12 Tournament semifinal at 4:30 p.m. today. The game was postponed Saturday, Walton coach Gary Backus said Sunday. Backus’ Warriors will play today’s winner in the MAC 9-12 championship game at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Today’s loser will meet Afton in the MAC 9-12 consolation game at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

• Stamford’s non-league game at Hancock was canceled because of rain and will not be made up, Indians coach Mike Faulkner said Sunday.

• Edmeston athletic director Mike Clark said Sunday night his Panthers also were rained out and their non-league game at Brookfield will not be rescheduled.


Saturday cancellations

• The Sidney Federal Credit Union Tournament at Bainbridge-Guilford was rained out and will not be made up, B-G athletic director Greg Warren said via email Saturday. The host Bobcats were scheduled to face Sherburne-Earlville in the opening round, which also was to feature Sidney against Gilbertsville-Mount Upton.

• Cooperstown’s game at Clinton was rained out in the first inning. Cooperstown coach Dave Bliss said via email Saturday that the game will not be rescheduled.

• Edmeston’s non-league game at Brookfield also was canceled and is unlikely to be made up, Clark said Sunday.
