Oneonta High graduate Nate Eastman and Casey Kerdesky had two hits apiece Sunday, but Oneonta State fell to Washington & Lee during the Red Dragons’ winter trip to Virginia.
Washington & Lee (5-2) scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. O-State (1-2) cut its deficit to 4-1 when Kerdesky scored on an RBI single by Billy Reidel in the second inning.
Kerdesky singled home in Eastman in the fourth to cap Oneonta’s scoring. Eastman doubled to set up the run.
The Red Dragons are off until March 8, when they are scheduled for a doubleheader at Messiah.
O-State 5, Lynchburg 4
Steve Ascher struck out 11 strikeouts in 52/3 innings to lead Oneonta State to a season-opening victory Saturday in Virginia.
Ascher allowed four hits and three earned runs for the Red Dragons, and Kyle Jordan finished the final 11/3 for his first collegiate save.
David Wright (Oneonta High) and Matt Mastroianni had two hits apiece for Oneonta. Wright doubled and drove in three runs. Mastroianni finished with a triple and an RBI.
Lynchburg 21, O-State 12
Starting pitcher Alex Mastrianni gave up seven earned runs on six hits in 22/3 innings as Oneonta State lost the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.
David Wright (Oneonta High) had three hits for the Red Dragons, who received a grand slam from Jon Halligan in the fifth inning.
Guilford 12, O-State 6
Connor Coyle scored three times Saturday, but Oneonta State dropped its season opener on the road.
Devon Casey, Daniel Stern and Mike Metzger also scored for the Red Dragons, who held a 47-40 advantage in shots over Guilford (2-0).
O-State, which faced a 7-2 halftime deficit, visits Farmingdale State this Saturday.
Delhi 14, Alfred State 4
Jake Guy scored four goals to lead visiting Delhi to a season-opening victory Saturday.
