Lufkin is Hartwick’s fifth E8 Rookie of the Year. He joins David Orr (2001), Jan Cocozziello (2006), Mark Blazek (2009) and Suderley (2011). He is second on the Hawks in scoring with an average of 16.1 points, which is sixth overall and first among freshmen in the Empire 8.
Lufkin had his college high of of 28 points in a 77-65 Hartwick win over the Cardinals. His 41.1 three-point shooting percentage is tied for third in the E8. He hit season highs of five three-point shots made on two occasions (Nov. 16 vs. Messiah and Feb. 1 vs. Fisher).
“Joey has really developed as the year has gone along and has been a factor for the team since day one,” McGuinness said in the media release.
Bradley is averaging 14.1 points. His 60 percent field goal percentage is tops in the conference and is 23rd overall in the country. He leads Hartwick in assists (81) and steals (41) and ranks eighth and sixth in both categories, respectively, in the Empire 8. Bradley is sixth in total rebounds in the E8 with an 8.1 average. He eclipsed the 1,000 point mark Feb. 8 against Alfred.
“Kyle has had a great senior season and his numbers show that he is not only a good scorer but a great passer,” McGuinness said.
Senior guard Christian Laputka was selected as Hartwick’s representative on the Sportsman of the Year team.
The top-seeded Hawks (16-9, 10-4) will host the Empire 8 Tournament this weekend. They’ll play fourth-seeded Alfred at 8 p.m. tonight in a semifinal. Second-seeded Stevens and No. 3 Nazareth will play in the first semifinal at 6 p.m. The championship game will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday.
