---- — Hodges Pond set for ice skating

Hodges Pond in Oneonta’s Neahwa Park will be open for public ice skating this weekend.

Ice skating hours are noon-6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, as well as 3-6 p.m. Fridays.

Daily updates regarding hours and ice conditions are available by calling the Oneonta City Recreation Department’s information line at 607-432-7997.

OHS to host wrestling tourney

The 6th Ward Athletic Club will sponsor the Royal Rumble Wrestling Festival for Oneonta students in grades 3-8 on Saturday at Oneonta High.

Wrestlers must attend Valleyview, Riverside or Greater Plains elementary schools, or Oneonta Middle School to compete.

Registration runs from 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday. No experience is necessary and there is no fee.

Wrestlers will be grouped by grades (3-4, 5-6, middle school) and will compete in two or three matches.

Wrestlers will receive a T-shirt. Medals will be awarded to those who finish in the top four in their age-group.

Youth soccer registration open

Registration is open for the Oneonta Youth Soccer Association Spring Recreation League.

Youths in grades K-3 who live in the Oneonta City School District are eligible to play.

Children who play for the Oneonta Soccer Club are not eligible.

Hall to offer overnights

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will offer its Extra Innings Overnights program beginning in February.

The program features a sleepover in the Hall’s Plaque Gallery for children ages 7-12 and their parents/guardians. It is open to museum members and youth groups.

Cost is $49.95 per person and includes after-hours access to the Hall’s public areas, hands-on programs throughout the museum, a late-night snack, a movie in the Bullpen Theater and a light breakfast the following morning. All junior participants will receive a Hall of Fame knapsack and mementos.

The program will run this Saturday and Sunday, as well as April 5, for members only. It also will run March 22-23 for youth groups only.

Soccer refs to meet Sunday

The Oneonta/USSF Soccer Referee Association will hold an interest meeting for those who would like to referee youth travel soccer from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday in Oneonta.

Gun show set for Sunday

The Midstate Arms Collectors will hold a gun show at the Oneonta Holiday Inn from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2.

Sixty dealers will be showing arms and military relics from before the Revolutionary War to the present. Some will pay cash for old guns, swords and military items. All federal and state firearms laws will be observed.

Pitching camp ends Sunday

The Oneonta Pitching Camp for softball players ages 8-18 ends Sunday at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

Session I is for advanced pitchers and runs from 1:30-3:30 p.m. To qualify, pitchers must know the fundamentals and mechanics of windmill pitching. The cost is $210.

Session II is for intermediate and beginning pitchers. It runs from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and costs $90.

The camp is run by John Seedborg and Oneonta High softball coach Randy Brockway.

Golf tourney set for March

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will hold an indoor captain-and-crew golf tournament in March.

Entry fee is $30 per player, with $15 per person going toward prize money.

Youth soccer clinic April 14-17

The Oneonta State men’s soccer team will host an indoor/outdoor soccer camp for youths in grades 2-11 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 14-17.

Cost is $80 per camper or $20 per day. Registration will take place April 14 at O-State’s Alumni Field House. All pick-ups and drop-offs take place at the same location.

Campers will have access to the Chase pool and may purchase a pizza lunch for $4 per day.

The camp serves as a fundraiser for the Red Dragons upcoming trip to Barcelona.

Lumberjack qualifiers June 7

STIHL TIMBERSPORTS will host its Professional Northeast Qualifier for the area’s top lumberjacks June 7 in Cooperstown.

Local residents will take part in the hot saw, single buck, springboard chop, standing block chop, stock saw and underhand chop for a chance to earn entry into the U.S. Championship, which will run from June 20-22 at Norfolk Scope Arena in Virginia and air on ABC in September.

Junior golf program starts soon

Catskill Mountains Junior Golf is accepting applications for 2014.

The program, which includes clinics, a parent-junior tournament and a banquet, will be offered at Ouleout Creek Golf Course in North Franklin and at Shephard Hills Golf Course in Roxbury.

Youths ages 5-17 may participate.

Laurens tourneys March 7-8

The Laurens Booster Club will host two 3-on-3 basketball tournaments March 7-8.

An adult tournament will begin at 6 p.m. March 7, with the fifth annual student tournament to follow at 9 a.m. March 8. Laurens Central will host both tournaments.

Adults will have men’s and women’s divisions for ages 18-29 and 30-and-over. Student divisions are grades 5-6, 7-9 and 10-12.

Pre-registration costs $40 per team. Walk-in registration costs $50 per team.

The concession stand will be open during both tournaments, which serve as fundraisers for athletes to attend summer sports camps.

Girls basketball tryouts set

The Catskill Mountain Girls AAU Basketball Club will hold tryouts March 9 and March 16 at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

Registration for players in grades 6-7 starts at 12:30 p.m. with tryouts to follow from 1-2:30 p.m.

Registration for players in grades 8-11 will be open before tryouts, which run from 2-3:30 p.m.

Catskill Mountain is a competitive AAU travel basketball club that is looking to sponsor four teams in various age-groups. All teams will be coached by current and former high school and college players and coaches.

State basketball tickets on sale

Tickets are on sale for the 37th New York State Public High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball State Championships, which run March 14-16 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Tickets cost $10 per session or $50 for all sessions. Advanced tickets cost $8 apiece for the first 1,000 sold before March 1. Fans also may purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $50 before March 1, but this package is limited to 250.

The schedule is as follows:

March 15: Class A semifinals, 9 and 10:45 a.m.; Class AA semifinals, 12:30 and 2:15 p.m.; Class D championship, 5:30 p.m.; Class C championship, 7:15 p.m.; Class B championship, 9 p.m.

March 16: Class A championship, 1:30 p.m.; Class AA championship, 3:15 p.m.

Milford tourneys March 14-15

Milford Central will host its fifth annual March Madness Basketball Tournaments on March 14-15.

On March 14, varsity and junior varsity boys and girls basketball players will form a co-ed team to play Milford staff members and adult relatives at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature a shooting contest open to all in attendance. Adult relatives who wish to play may sign up by calling Brenda Lang at 607-286-3349.

On March 15, the Wildcats will host 3-on-3 tournaments for youths and adults beginning at 11 a.m.

Doors open at 10 a.m. March 15 for the double-elimination tournaments, which will have male and female divisions for players in grades 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and adults. Skilled players may compete at the next level, but those in higher grade may not play down.

Pre-registration (before March 13) costs $40 per team and may be paid by cash or check. After March 13, the cost to register is $50 per team. Those who register on the day of the event must arrive by 10 a.m. March 15.

Teams must have a minimum of three players and a maximum of four. Waiver forms must be completed, signed by a parent or guardian and submitted the day of the tournaments for each player younger than 18. Waiver and entry forms are available at Milford Central’s main office, online at www.milfordcentral.org or by emailing Lang at blang@milfordcentral.org.

SUNY Delhi sets pool schedule

SUNY Delhi’s pool hours through March 16 are as follows:

Monday-Friday: Lap swim 7-8 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Monday-Thursday: Open swim 8-10 p.m.

Friday: Open swim: 7-9 p.m.

Saturday-Sunday: Open swim, 1-5 p.m.

The pool will be closed for mid-winter break from Feb. 21-March 2.

Registration for spring swim lessons run from 9 a.m.-noon March 15.

Waterfront Lifeguard Training class will run from March 19-May 7. Cost is $270.
