Top-seeded SUNY Delhi forced overtime on a three-pointer by Matt Banton with 2 seconds left in regulation before falling, 67-65, to Clinton Community College in an NJCAA Division III Region III men’s basketball semifinal Saturday at Delhi.
“It was a wild game,” Delhi coach Rob Schoener said. “We were up eight in the first half and had a chance to crank the margin, but they hung around and made one more play than us.”
Delhi, which finished its season at 26-6, had a look from about 30 feet at winning three-pointer at the end of overtime but didn’t connect.
Banton finished with a team-high 19 points, one of four Broncos in double figures. Ibrahima Toure had 13 points and 12 rebounds, Arif Mehmetaj contributed 11 points, and Marvilio Berroa finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Clinton, which lost to Herkimer County CC, 81-75, in Sunday’s final, was led by Bayron Carter’s 25 points. Kyree Hull contributed 22 points for Clinton.
The Broncos are expected to have seven players back next season, including starters Banton and Berroa.
