Sidney wrestlers top Delhi in MAC, 46-33

Seth Arnold, Nicholas Jump and Kai Sabada won by pinfall Thursday to lead Sidney to a 46-33 Midstate Athletic Conference wrestling victory over visiting Delhi.

Arnold had a second-period pin at 113 pounds as did Jump at 170. Sabada needed 1 minute, 48 seconds to win his match at 195.

The Warriors also won two tight bouts via decision at 132 and 152. Ryan Arnold got a late takedown and back points for a 9-5 defeat of Giovanni Scarimbolo at 132. Brandon Swislosky followed with a 1-0 win over Justin Mattice at 152, holding on after earning a point on a first-period escape.

Dylan Gifford contributed a 12-2 major decision at 160 for Sidney (3-0), which will compete at the Marathon Duals on Saturday.

Mike Bryden’s pin at 120 served as the highlight for Delhi, which got a 6-3 decision from Pat Brown at 126.

Greene 47, Walton 24

Brothers Caleb and Logan Robinson started a MAC dual meet with back-to-back pins for Walton, which dropped its last three matches via forfeit en route to a loss.

“Our heaviest guy is 172 pounds,” said Walton coach Paul LeBlanc, whose team fell to 1-7 in dual meets this season. “A lot of matches are close, but we’re giving up a lot of points on forfeits.”

Seventh-grader Caleb Robinson earned a second-period pin at 99 pounds and, following two straight “no matches,” junior Logan Robinson had a first-period pin at 120 to give the Warriors a 12-0 lead.

Dylan Wood, a Section Four Division II champion last season, followed with a pin at 126 as Walton extended its lead to 18-0.

Greene won the next four matches, including three by pinfall, to take a 23-18 lead. Dawson Beers then capped the Warriors’ scoring with a pin at 160.

Jeff Westergaurd’s pin at 170 put Greene back in control, at 29-24, and the Trojans took the last three matches by forfeit.

Walton hosts Delhi on Tuesday.

Caleb Simons earned Unadilla Valley’s points with a 59-second pin at 120 pounds as the Storm dropped a non-league dual meet.

Simons’ pin pulled UV to 18-6 against Mount Markham, which won eight bouts by pin and three by forfeit.

The Storm host Walton next Thursday.
