The Sidney Area Swim Club will hold an open tryout from 5-6 p.m. today at Sidney Central.
The new club, which is approved by USA Swimming, is accepting swimmers of all skill levels in grades 3-12. Swimmers in the Sidney district and surrounding areas may participate.
Practices run weekdays at Sidney Central. The club also will compete around the state.
Cost is $25 per month per swimmer. Scholarships are available.

Frost Bite 5K set for Dec. 31
The annual Oneonta Family YMCA Frost Bite 5K Fun Run will start at 1 p.m. Dec. 31.
Race day registration and number pick up runs from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the YMCA. The race will begin on Market Street in Oneonta.
Pre-registration for guaranteed T-shirts ends Dec. 13.

Lacrosse sessions run Mondays
LacrosseOneonta’s winter session at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club will run Mondays through Jan. 13, 2014.
Boys and girls in grades 3-7 will play between 6-7 p.m., followed by grades 8-12 from 7-9 p.m.
Cost is free, but participants must be members of the OBGC.

O-State to host girls lacrosse clinic
Oneonta State’s women’s lacrosse team will hold a winter clinic for high school girls from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 19 at Alumni Field House.
The clinic, for girls in grades 9-12, costs $75 and includes lunch.
In the morning session, instruction will center on offense, midfield and defense. Games will be played in the afternoon.

Hall accepting intern applications
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown is accepting applications for next year’s class at the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Leadership Development.
Applications for the Class of 2014 will be accepted through Jan. 31, 2014. The Steele Internship Program will provide students the chance to join the Hall in a 10-week summer internship.
To be considered for the program, students must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at a college or university, having completed at least their sophomore year. Fifteen intern positions are available.

Club accepting deer hides
The Bainbridge Sportsmen’s Club and Chenango Federation are accepting donations of deer hides.
Proceeds will be used to send youths to DEC camps.
Deer hides may be dropped off at the club, which is located at 23 Pearl St. in Bainbridge.
