The annual Oneonta Family YMCA Frost Bite 5K Fun Run will start at 1 p.m. Dec. 31.
Race day registration and number pick up runs from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the YMCA. The race will begin on Market Street in Oneonta.
Pre-registration for guaranteed T-shirts ends Dec. 13.

Tennis club’s winter starts Jan. 1
The Oneonta Tennis Club will begin its winter season Jan. 1. All membership and contract dues are due at that time.
Club fees will remain the same for the winter season. Rates are listed on the website www.otctennis.com.
The OTC, which is actively seeking a tennis professional, also will host the following events in 2014.
Junior clinics (Jan. 12): Ten-week session divided in groups according to skill and age and will be led by local college team members. Students are available to teach private and group lessons during the week as well.
Doubles qualifiers (Jan. 25): Top eight in each division (men’s & women’s) will compete in the tournament, three sets with three different partners. Top four in each division will then team up for semifinals and finals. No fee for those in all-inclusive membership category. For others, cost is $20 for the qualifiers and $40 for the tournament.
O-State tennis fundraiser (Feb. 8-9): Fundraiser tournament for Oneonta State’s varsity tennis teams.
Lacrosse sessions run Mondays
LacrosseOneonta’s winter session at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club will run Mondays through Jan. 13, 2014.
Boys and girls in grades 3-7 will play between 6-7 p.m., followed by grades 8-12 from 7-9 p.m.
Cost is free, but participants must be members of the OBGC.

YMCA basketball leagues start soon
The Oneonta Family YMCA is accepting sign-ups for its 30-55 and 50-and-over basketball leagues.
The 30-55 league will play Tuesday evenings and the 50-and-over league will compete Wednesday evenings starting the week of Jan. 14.
Instructional meetings for the leagues will start at 6 p.m. Jan. 7 (50-and-over) and at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 (30-55) at the YMCA.

O-State women’s lacrosse clinic set
The Oneonta State women’s lacrosse team will hold a winter clinic for high school girls in grades 9-12 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 19 at Alumni Field House.
Cost is $75 and includes lunch. Pre-registration is highly recommended.

Crappie Derby set for Jan. 25
The Almost-Annual New York State Crappie Derby is scheduled for Jan. 25 in Whitney Point.
Entry fee is $2 for ages 13-and-older and free for those 12-and-younger.
Free parking is available at Dorchester Park in Whitney Point as well as the Kiebel Road extension on the west side of Whitney Point Lake.
The last Crappie Derby took place in 2011 and drew roughly 2,000 anglers and an additional 3,500 spectators. The purse that year was approximately $13,500.

Local umpires to meet
Local chapters of the Schohanna Board of Baseball/Softball Umpires, Inc., will hold their first business meeting of the season at 10 a.m. Jan. 26 at Lecture Hall 1 in Oneonta State’s Hodgdon Instructional Resource Center.
Anyone interested in becoming an umpire for the upcoming high school/summer seasons should attend. Classes start Feb. 5 for baseball and Jan. 6 for softball.

Hall accepting intern applications
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown is accepting applications for next year’s class at the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Leadership Development.
Applications for the Class of 2014 will be accepted through Jan. 31, 2014. The Steele Internship Program will provide students the chance to join the Hall in a 10-week summer internship.
To be considered for the program, students must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at a college or university, having completed at least their sophomore year. Fifteen intern positions are available.

Club accepting deer hides
The Bainbridge Sportsmen’s Club and Chenango Federation are accepting donations of deer hides.
Proceeds will be used to send youths to DEC camps.
Deer hides may be dropped off at the club, which is located at 23 Pearl St. in Bainbridge.
