Wick men, women fall

Senior forward Kyle Bradley scored a team-high 24 points Monday, but Hartwick College dropped a non-conference men’s basketball game, 78-72, to visiting Hobart.

Neither team led by more than eight points. The Hawks (4-5) rallied from a 69-63 deficit with a little more than four minutes left, closing to 74-72 with 1:51 to go.

Hartwick then missed three layups, one by Bradley and two by Jared Suderley, before the Statesmen (5-2) secured the victory at the free throw line.

Bradley also had five steals and four rebounds for the Hawks, who fell behind, 36-30, at halftime.

Suderley got his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. He also blocked three shots.

Matt Petruccione hit four three-pointers for a season- and college-high 12 points, and Joey Lufkin finished with nine points and a season-high seven assists.

The Hawks begin Empire 8 play at 6 p.m. Friday, when they host defending conference champion Ithaca.


Tufts 66, Hartwick 51

Brittney Dumas scored a game- and season-high 24 points, but Hartwick’s women fell to seventh-ranked Tufts (9-0) in a non-conference game at Lambros Arena.

Dumas went 10-for-17 shots from the floor, including 3 of 4 from three-point range. She also grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds. Lee Arduini and Taylor Vonasek each scored 10 points for the Hawks, who trailed, 36-28, at halftime.

Kate Purcell contributed six rebounds and three steals for Hartwick (6-2), which receivd seven rebounds and four assists from Maria Foglia.

The Hawks open Empire 8 play at home Friday against 16th-ranked Ithaca.
