---- — Hall adds senior VP to staff

Jeffrey J. Jones has joined the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown as senior vice president of finance and administration, effective Jan. 15.

Jones replaces Bill Haase, who retired in December following 13 years with the museum.

Jones, who has worked with regional not-for-profit organizations for nearly three decades, had been the chief financial officer and associate executive director for the University at Albany Foundation.

Oswego State graduate Jones also served as CFO for Bellevue Women’s Hospital and Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. He began his career in 1986 working for Coopers & Lybrand in the Albany office.

Jones’ will be responsible for all financial and administrative duties for the Hall, including building operations, human resources, accounting and finance.

Youth wrestlers picked for nationals

Nine members from the Gladiators School of Wrestling Club, a private club in Bainbridge, have been selected to represent New York during the National United Wrestling Association for Youth Duals next month.

Trevor Thayer (Otego, 46 pounds), Max Morris (Norwich, 55) and TJ O’Connor (Otego, 64) will compete in the 8-and-under division for the National New York Wrestling Association of Youth State Team during the NUWAY National Duals, which run Feb. 15-17 at the University of Ohio.

Troy Spratley (Bainbridge, 70), Joseph Marvin (Norwich, 75) and Tyler Rice (Norwich, 105) will wrestle in the 10-and-under division; Dante Geislinger (Norwich, 65) and Elijah Rodriguez (Norwich, 80) will compete in the 12-and-under division; and Alexis Thayer (Otego, 60) will be in the all-girl 14-and-under division.

Additionally, Gladiators head coach Stephen Spratley will be an assistant on the 8-and-under coaching staff.

To help cover travel costs, the Gladiators will hold a bottle-and-can drive and a bake sale Feb. 9 at Kmart in Sidney and Walmart in Norwich. Donations also will be accepted.

Delhi basketball to fight cancer

The Delhi boys and girls basketball programs will host Bainbridge-Guilford today for a Coaches vs. Cancer event.

The junior varsity boys and girls will play at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity boys at 6 p.m. and the varsity girls at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is by donation at the door for the event, which also will feature concessions, a 50/50 raffle and half-court shots. All proceeds will benefit cancer research.

Spectators are asked to participate in a “Pink Out” as Delhi is looking for the entire crowd to wear pink in support of cancer research.

Hall accepting intern applications

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown is accepting applications for next year’s class at the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Leadership Development.

Applications for the Class of 2014 will be accepted through today. The Steele Internship Program will provide students the chance to join the Hall in a 10-week summer internship.

To be considered for the program, students must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at a college or university, having completed at least their sophomore year. Fifteen intern positions are available.

O-State Kids Day is Saturday

Oneonta State will host its fourth annual Kids in Sports Day from 10 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Saturday in Dewar Arena.

The event is free for children ages 4-13. Youths will receive instruction in soccer, tennis, volleyball, lacrosse and field hockey. The day ends with a question-and-answer session featuring O-State athletes.

Participants should wear athletic clothing, including sneakers, and bring lunch and something to drink.

SUNY Delhi sets pool schedule

SUNY Delhi’s pool hours through March 16 are as follows:

Monday-Friday: Lap swim 7-8 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Monday-Thursday: Open swim 8-10 p.m.

Friday: Open swim: 7-9 p.m.

Saturday-Sunday: Open swim, 1-5 p.m.

The pool will be closed for mid-winter break from Feb. 21-March 2.

Registration for spring swim lessons run from 9 a.m.-noon March 15.

Waterfront Lifeguard Training class will run from March 19-May 7. Cost is $270.

Hartwick soccer camp starts Feb. 17

Hartwick College will host its Jr. Hawks Winter Indoor Soccer Camp from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 17-21.

The camp is for boys and girls ages 6-12 and costs $20 per day per camper.

May 1: Thursday AM Seniors, 8:30 a.m.
