Emily Loucks, Abigail Loucks and Caryn Balnis rolled the top three series Friday to lead Oneonta High’s girls to the team championship in the Section Four Class B Bowling Tournament at Mid-Way Lanes in Vestal.
Sophomore Emily Loucks built a tournament-high 636 series on games of 187, 246 and 203 for the Yellowjackets, who won the team title with 2,722 pins. Twin sister Abigail Loucks placed second with a 575 series that featured a 203. Balnis, a senior, opened her 567 series with a 193.
“I don’t think the girls have ever won a sectional title,” said first-year OHS coach Mark Smithling, who also received a season-high 495 series from Miranda Kreger. “Now the whole team gets to go to the state qualifiers.”
Smithling said Emily Loucks and Balnis previously qualified as individuals for the overall Section Four Tournament, which will start at 9 a.m. Feb. 15 in Waverly. After OHS won the team title, Abigail Loucks, Kreger and Jeanette Rock (449) also earned berths in the state qualifiers.
The Jackets edged Waverly by 37 pins for the team title.
