Oneonta High's Dolan wins Section Four Class B wrestling title


Kirkland Dolan’s title at 170 pounds helped Oneonta High to a seventh-place finish in the Section Four Class B wrestling meet Saturday at Norwich.

Dolan (36-3) pinned Susquehanna Valley’s Austin Tingley in 2 minutes, 7 seconds in the final. Dolan also earned a first-period pin over Chenango Valley’s Robert Woodward in the semifinals.

The Yellowjackets finished with 84 points. Norwich won the nine-team meet with 167 points.

Mitchell Spaziani also advanced to the final for OHS. He lost by pin in 5:03 to Maine-Endwell’s Kiegan Brown in the 113-pound final. Spaziani pinned Windsor’s Darren Dixon in 57 seconds in his semifinal match.

Oneonta received a third-place finish from James Longo at 145 pounds, and fourth-place showings from Benji Blacklock and Sam Sherrill at 113 and 152 pounds, respectively.

For this weekend’s Section Four Championships at Binghamton University, Dolan is seeded fourth in Division II at 170 pounds. Longo earned the seventh seed at 145 and Sherrill is seeded eighth at 152.

Class C

Area wrestlers won six titles during the Section Four Class C Tournament on Saturday at Greene.

Sidney received titles from Dylan Gifford (152), Nick Jump (160) and Austin Dean (285), Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville had titles from Chris Cirigliano (106) and Jamie Griswold (145), and Unatego’s Ryan Marszal won at 170.

All three of Sidney’s titles came at the expense of Tioga wrestlers.

Gifford earned an 8-2 win over Brad Jump, Nick Jump pinned Luke Hoose in 1:33 and Dean downed Zach Kelsey, 2-1.

Gifford and Nick Jump are seeded third for this weekend’s Section Four Championships. Dean earned the top seed at 285.

Cirigliano pinned Lansing’s Hunter Oblinski in 1:05 to win his final. Griswold’s title also came by pin. He needed 3:01 to stop Nick Cocola.

Cirigliano and Griswold both will be seeded first for this weekend.

The unbeaten Marszal defeated Waverly’s Brandon Ellers, 3-2, in the 170-pound final. Marszal and Ellers are seeded 1-2, respectively, this weekend.
