Afton 52, Oxford 25

Payton Cutting scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds to lead Afton to a victory over Oxford in the second round of the Harpursville Tournament on Saturday.

Cutting scored all 14 of her points in the first half as Afton held a 33-6 advantage at the break.

Bailey Sherman contributed 12 points for Afton (4-3), which hosts Greene on Tuesday.

Rachel Seiler finished with a team-high 10 points for Oxford.

RS 43, SJ 24

Rebecca Smith scored a game-high 11 points and had team-bests of eight rebounds and four assists to lead visiting Richfield Springs to a non-league victory Saturday.

Smith had 10 points in the first quarter as the Indians opened on a 18-4 run.

‘‘We had good ball movement,’’ RS coach Stacey Mayne said. ‘‘We finished with 13 assists as a team.’’

Kirsten Raux and Rylie Smith contributed eight points apiece for St. Johnsville (0-4), which visits Richfield Springs (4-3) on Monday.

Correction

Roxbury’s Stacey Sprague scored a team-high 18 points Saturday in a 59-50 loss to Stamford during the consolation game of the Stamford Tournament. Sprague’s performance was not mentioned in Monday’s edition of The Daily Star because of a reporter’s error.

Christian Alexander scored a game-high 26 points to lead Cooperstown to a Center State Conference road victory Dec. 20.

Jordan Manikas contributed 16 points for the Hawkeyes, who took a 29-27 lead into halftime.

Large School Meet

Sidney’s Dean Howard placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run Friday during the Section Four Large School Meet at Cortland State. Howard completed the event in 2 minutes, 48.46 seconds.

Howard’s result was omitted from the list of area athletes who had top-10 finishes in Monday’s edition of The Daily Star because of an editor’s error.
