Kyle Bradley scored a college-best 31 points Saturday, leading the Hartwick College men’s basketball team to a 92-77 Empire 8 Conference defeat of visiting Utica College.
Bradley went 13-for-15 from the floor and 5-for-9 at the foul line en route to game-high scoring honors. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
Joey Lufkin contributed 19 points, Matt Petruccione had 16 and Jared Suderley scored 11 points and finished with a game-high 16 rebounds for the Hawks (6-5, 2-0), who won their second straight. Suderley’s efforts marked his fifth double-double this season and third in a row.
“We played with good energy and we were able to take advantage of mismatches to get easy buckets,” Hartwick coach Todd McGuinness said in a media release prepared by the college. “Kyle played great and Matt hit big buckets when we needed him. It was a quality win over a good opponent.”
Hartwick never trailed and jumped to an 18-8 lead after 5 minutes, 29 seconds. Lufkin scored all of his points in the first half, which ended with the Hawks ahead, 45-31.
Utica (5-5, 0-2) cut its deficit to 65-59 with 9:16 left and trailed, 69-61, with 6:48 to go. Petruccione then hit a three-pointer and Hartwick maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the game.
Aaron Nevins’ 25 points paced Utica, which received 15 points and nine rebounds from Chris Jeffers.
Hartwick will visit E8 rival St. John Fisher at 6 p.m. Friday.
Oswego 83, Cobleskill 51
Freshman forward Cortrell King finished with 23 points and seven rebounds Saturday, but SUNY Cobleskill lost a non-conference game on the road.
Junior point guard Alexis Nunez contributed 10 points and five assists for the Fighting Tigers (1-8), who trailed, 43-23, at halftime.
Rashawn Powell’s 18 points paced the Lakers (8-1), who received 16 from Daniel Ross.
Cobleskill visits Hamilton College for a non-conference game at 7 tonight.
