Walton graduate Bryan Backus scored 15 points for visiting SUNY Cobleskill, which lost a non-conference men’s basketball game at Hamilton, 62-52, on Monday night.
Backus hit five of his eight shots from the floor, including all five of his attempts from three-point range. He also had five steals and four assists.
Cortell King scored a game-high 17 points for the Fighting Tigers (1-9).
Matt Hart had 15 points to lead four Hamilton players in double figures. Included in that group was Joseph Lin, the brother of Houston Rockets guard Jeremy Lin. Joseph Lin hit three three-pointers and scored 11 points for the Continentals (7-5).
The Fighting Tigers will travel to Cazenovia at noon Jan. 15.
The Empire 8 Conference selected Hartwick senior Kyle Bradley as its men’s basketball player of the week.
Bradley shot 80 percent from the floor in helping the Hawks win two of their three games last week. He shot 8-for-11 from the floor and scored 24 points in Hartwick’s 78-72 loss to Hobart on Monday.
On Friday, Bradley made 7 of 9 shots during a 14-point night that helped the Hawks to a 92-50 victory over Ithaca. The next night, he scored his college high of 31 points, hitting 13 of 15 shots from the floor, in Hartwick’s 92-77 win over Utica. Bradley also grabbed rebounds in that game.
For the season, Bradley is averaging 15.2. He leads the E8 in shooting percentage at 65 and also has a conference-leading 22 steals.
Hartwick (6-5, 2-0) will play at St. John Fisher on Friday.
