Jared Suderley had 25 points and nine rebounds Friday to lead Hartwick College to an 84-82 men’s basketball victory over host St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 Conference.

The Hawks won a game that featured 11 ties and 15 lead changes to improve to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Suderley hit two free throws with 17 seconds left to give Hartwick an 83-79 advantage. Adam Ambielli then pulled the Cardinals (7-5, 1-1) to one with a three-pointer, but Matt Petruccione drew a foul and made 1 of 2 attempts for the final margin.

Suderley fouled SJF’s Keegan Ryan in the final seconds, but Ryan missed the first attempt and the Cardinals wasted the second with a lane violation.

“It was a good road win and any win on the road in the Empire 8 is huge,” Hartwick coach Todd McGuinness said in a media release prepared by the college. “Jared and Joey Lufkin hit big-time three-pointers, and Kyle Bradley and Anthony Keane made big plays down the stretch.”

Bradley finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds and four steals for the Hawks, who received 13 points from Lufkin and 12 from Petruccione.

Hartwick, which held a 39-34 rebounding advantage, took a 36-35 lead into halftime.

The Hawks visit Nazareth for an Empire 8 game at 2 p.m. Saturday.
