O-State men, women win on road

Herkimer 73, Delhi 21

Samaria Newkirk scored 14 points for Delhi in a Mountain Valley Conference loss Saturday.

The Broncos host Mohawk Valley on Tuesday.

SWIMMING

Hartwick splits on road

Ben Detar, Luke Grunewald, Brad Ranson and Matt Plunkett won two events apiece to lead Hartwick’s men to a 177-111 non-conference victory at Cortland on Sunday.

Detar took first in the 100-yard butterfly (53.95 seconds) and the 200 butterfly (1:57.07); Grunewald was first in the 500 freestyle (4:57.37) and the 1,000 free (10:07.11); Ranson won the 100 free (48.24) and the 200 free (1:46.60); and Plunkett touched first in the 100 backstroke (55.74) and the 200 backstroke (2:00.05).

Plunkett and Ranson also joined Joey Mulvehill and Evan DeGidio for a win in the 400 free relay (3:16.55).

Gwen Mathias had two victories for Hartwick’s women, who fell, 170-124. She won the 500 free (5:22.23) and the 1,000 free (11:01.54).

Kaitlyn Campbell won the 200 free (2:02.45) and Hartwick teammate Clare Nelson took first in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.85).

The Hawks host Alfred on Saturday.

Kumpf Invitational

Sam Scott took fifth in the one-meter dive with 213.25 points as Cobleskill’s men finished last in the seven-team Kumpf Invitational on Saturday at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Fighting Tigers visit Wells College on Wednesday.

WRESTLING

North-South Duals

Ben Mikac, fellow senior Dan Graff and sophomore Shaun Gillen each went 4-0 Saturday as Oneonta State went 4-for-4 in team victories during the North-South Duals at Ursinus College.

Gillen pinned three of his opponents and Graff pinned two for the Red Dragons (6-6), who defeated McDaniel (28-21), Trinity (36-12), Gettysburg (33-15) and Elizabethtown (36-10).

Chad Obzud (two pins) and Dominic DeGraba contributed three victories apiece for Oneonta, which will compete in the ECWC Championships this Saturday at Lycoming.
