Cobleskill women fall at Utica, 79-60|


Shelby Preston and Samantha Davis scored 15 points apiece, but SUNY Cobleskill fell, 79-60, to host Utica College in a non-conference women’s basketball game Monday.

Kady Porterfield and Tracee Schiebel scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Cobleskill, which fell to 2-9.

Preston also grabbed nine rebounds for Cobleskill, which trailed, 41-27, at halftime.

Samantha Stayer had 28 points to lead Utica (5-8).

The Fighting Tigers will travel to Cazenovia at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

HONORSWomen’s Basketball

Hartwick College sophomore Brittney Dumas was named the Empire 8 Conference’s Player of the Week.

Dumas, who earned the same honor last season, averaged 18.3 points and 9.7 rebounds in helping the Hawks win two of three games last week. She shot 53 percent from the field and also had five assists, six steals and five blocks.

Dumas had 16 points and nine rebounds in a 67-65 loss to Vassar on Tuesday. In a 71-68 win over St. John Fisher on Friday, Dumas had 16 points and 10 rebounds. The next day, she had 23 points and 10 rebounds in a 72-54 win at Nazareth.

For the season, Dumas ranks among E8 players in points (16.5 per game) and rebounds (10.5).

Men’s Basketball

The Empire 8 Conference named Hartwick freshman Joey Lufkin as its Rookie of the Week. It’s the second time this season Lufkin has earned the honor.

Lufkin averaged 13.5 points as Hartwick split two conference games over the weekend.

He had 13 points in Hartwick’s 84-82 win over St. John Fisher on Friday. His three-pointer with three minutes left broke a 68-68 tie.

Lufkin had 14 points in Hartwick’s 86-76 loss to Nazareth on Saturday.

Lufkin is averaging 15.5 points, which ranks second on the Hawks.

Hartwick (7-6, 3-1) will travel to Stevens at 6 p.m. today.

Cobleskill athlete of the week

Tracee Schiebel, a junior women’s basketball player, was named SUNY Cobleskill’s athlete of the week.

Schiebel scored her season high of 20 points in the Fighting Tigers’ 68-67 overtime victory against visiting SUNY Canton on Saturday. Schiebel made a putback off a missed free throw to provide the winning points. She also had seven rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block.

On the season, Schiebel is averaging 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.1 assist and 2.0 steals.
