Oneonta State’s men narrowed a five-goal, fourth-quarter deficit to two before falling at home to Union College, 8-6, in a non-conference lacrosse game Wednesday.

Daniel Stern scored unassisted with 12 minutes, 31 seconds left to close O-State’s deficit to 8-4. Connor Coyle then scored with 5:52 to play to make it a three-goal game.

Mike Metzger capped the scoring with 28 seconds left.

Stern had a goal and two assists, and Coyle finished with two goals for O-State, which dropped to 0-3 on the season.

Nolan Stauffer had two goals for Union (1-1).

Sophomores Kevin Fitzpatrick and Justin Benigno combined to make eight saves for the Red Dragons, who will play at Rensselaer at noon Saturday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALLO-State senior honored

Oneonta State senior Alyshia Crawford was selected as a Second Team pick to the SUNY Athletic Conference all-star team.

“This is a very deserving recognition for Alyshia,” O-State coach Daphne Thompson said in a media release sent by the school. “Her four years of persistence, dedication and commitment to our program and the game have given her the opportunity to be recognized by the coaches in the conference. She worked hard to bring her skills to a level that allowed her to be a competitive, consistent player. I’m thankful to have been able to work with Alyshia and be a part of her growth as a player and person.”

Crawford had her best statistical season as a senior.

She doubled her scoring total as a senior, with 440 points. She averaged a team-best 16.9 points, including 67 three-pointers – 46 more than she made a season ago.

She also finished second on the team in assists (60) and steals (58), and shot 80 percent from the free throw line. The 110 rebounds she grabbed ranked third on the team.

Over four seasons, Crawford had 833 points, 126 steals, 129 assists, 291 rebounds and made 108 three-pointers. She also shot 79 percent from the free throw line during her time at O-State.
