Hartwick women advance in NCAAs

Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year Jared Suderley finished with team-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds, but Hartwick’s season ended with a first-round loss at SUNY Purchase in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Kyle Bradley contributed 16 points for the Empire 8 Conference Tournament champion Hawks (18-10), who received 14 points from E8 Rookie of the Year Joey Lufkin.

Andre Nixon’s game-high 28 points paced Purchase (26-2), which received 18 points from Joel Neiri, 17 from Jake Stevens III, 14 from David Haughton and 11 from Justin Person.

Nixon went 6-for-10 from three-point range for Purchase, which took a 46-34 lead into halftime.

Suderley ended his fourth and final season at Hartwick as the program leader for all-time points (2,034) and rebounds (920).

INDOOR TRACKTufts Meet

SUNY Cobleskill freshman Winston Lee met the NCAA Division III Championship indoor track standard in the 60-meter dash at the Tufts University Last Chance Meet on Thursday.

The national qualifying standard is 6.89 seconds and only the top 15 athletes in the nation are selected to compete at the NCAA D-III Championships.

Lee won the event in a program-record time of 6.87 seconds, which puts him in a three-way tie for 10th place among NCAA D-III athletes this season.

National qualifying for the indoor championships closes Sunday, when national selections will be announced on the website www.ncaa.org.
