---- — Hurricanes to hold breakfast fundraiser

The Oneonta Hurricanes travel baseball teams will hold a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8-10 a.m. Sunday at Applebee’s in the Southside Mall.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from any Hurricanes player or at the door Sunday.

Junior golf program starts soon

Catskill Mountains Junior Golf is accepting applications for 2014.

The program, which includes clinics, a parent-junior tournament and a banquet, will be offered at Ouleout Creek Golf Course in North Franklin and at Shephard Hills Golf Course in Roxbury.

Youths ages 5-17 may participate.

State basketball tickets on sale

Tickets are on sale for the 37th New York State Public High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball State Championships, which run Friday through Sunday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Tickets cost $10 per session or $50 for all sessions.

Tickets may be purchased at the Civic Center Box Office, by phone at 855-432-2849 or online at www.GlensFallsCC.com or www.ticketleap.com.

The schedule is as follows:

Friday: Class D semifinals, 10 and 11:45 a.m.; Class C semifinals, 1:30 and 5 p.m.; Class B semifinals, 6:45 and 8:30 p.m.

Saturday: Class A semifinals, 9 and 10:45 a.m.; Class AA semifinals, 12:30 and 2:15 p.m.; Class D championship, 5:30 p.m.; Class C championship, 7:15 p.m.; Class B championship, 9 p.m.

Sunday: Class A championship, 1:30 p.m.; Class AA championship, 3:15 p.m.

Milford tourneys this weekend

Milford Central will host its fifth annual March Madness Basketball Tournaments on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, varsity and junior varsity boys and girls basketball players will form a co-ed team to play Milford staff members and adult relatives at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature a shooting contest open to all in attendance. Adult relatives who wish to play may sign up by calling Brenda Lang at 607-286-3349.

On Saturday, the Wildcats will host 3-on-3 tournaments for youths and adults beginning at 11 a.m.

Doors open at 10 a.m. Saturday for the double-elimination tournaments, which will have male and female divisions for players in grades 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and adults. Skilled players may compete at the next level, but those in higher grade may not play down.

The cost to register is $50 per team. Those who register on the day of the event must arrive by 10 a.m. Saturday.

Teams must have a minimum of three players and a maximum of four. Waiver forms must be completed, signed by a parent or guardian and submitted the day of the tournaments for each player younger than 18. Waiver and entry forms are available at Milford Central’s main office, online at www.milfordcentral.org or by emailing Lang at blang@milfordcentral.org.

O-State women’s soccer to host dinner

The Oneonta State women’s soccer team is hosting its ninth annual Dinner and Auction with the Dragons from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Club at 84 Chestnut St.

Tickets for the all you can eat pasta dinner and silent auction are $10 for adults, and $5 for children 10 and under. Proceeds will support the team’s spring training trip to Arizona.

Girls basketball tryouts set

The Catskill Mountain Girls AAU Basketball Club will hold tryouts Sunday at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

Registration for players in grades 6-7 starts at 12:30 p.m. with tryouts to follow from 1-2:30 p.m.

Registration for players in grades 8-11 will be open before tryouts, which run from 2-3:30 p.m.

Catskill Mountain is a competitive AAU travel basketball club that is looking to sponsor four teams in various age-groups. All teams will be coached by current and former high school and college players and coaches.

SUNY Delhi sets pool schedule

SUNY Delhi’s pool hours through Sunday are as follows:

Monday-Friday: Lap swim 7-8 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Monday-Thursday: Open swim 8-10 p.m.

Friday: Open swim: 7-9 p.m.

Saturday-Sunday: Open swim, 1-5 p.m.

Registration for spring swim lessons run from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday.

Waterfront Lifeguard Training class will run from March 19-May 7. Cost is $270.

Hall to offer overnights

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown is offering its Extra Innings Overnights program this month.

The program features a sleepover in the Hall’s Plaque Gallery for children ages 7-12 and their parents/guardians. It is open to museum members and youth groups.

Cost is $49.95 per person and includes after-hours access to the Hall’s public areas, hands-on programs throughout the museum, a late-night snack, a movie in the Bullpen Theater and a light breakfast the following morning. All junior participants will receive a Hall of Fame knapsack and mementos.

The program will run March 22-23 for youth groups only, and April 5 for members only.

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens is accepting sign-ups for 2014 league play.

Leagues will meet on the following dates:

April 24: Thursday PM Men, 5 p.m.

April 26: Friday PM Couples, 5 p.m.

April 28: Monday AM Ladies, 9 a.m.; Monday PM Ladies, 5:30 p.m.

April 29: Tuesday AM Men, 9 a.m..

May 1: Thursday AM Seniors, 8:30 a.m.

League play costs $7 per week for non-course members. A one-time fee of $25 for dues pays for the banquet and prizes.

Pitch, Hit & Run is April 8

SUNY Cobleskill will host a local qualifier for the Scotts/Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run on April 8.

The youth skills competition will be held on the college’s baseball diamond and softball fields. Registration starts at 5 p.m. April 8, with the competition to follow at 5:30 p.m.

Boys and girls ages 7-14 as of July 17, 2014, are eligible to compete. Birth certificates are required. Age-groups will be 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Winners in each category and all-around champions will qualify for sectional competition at a time, date and site to be determined.

Sectional winners will advance to team championships, with the national finals to follow. National finalists will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the 2014 All-Star Game and will compete before the Home Run Derby.

OCC leagues start in April

The Oneonta Country Club is accepting sign-ups for its Wednesday night men’s league and its Thursday night open league.

Teams will play nine holes weekly in both leagues, which are open to the public.

The Wednesday night men’s league opens with a shotgun start at 5:15 p.m. and runs from April 9-Aug. 27. The league will feature 20 two-man teams. A league fee of $50 will go toward a year-end banquet and prizes for the winners. Cost is $20 per week, which includes greens fees and cart.

The Thursday night open league runs from April 10-Aug. 28 and will have an early division (tee off between 2:30-4 p.m.) and a late division (4-5:45 p.m.). Two-person teams may be any combination of men and women. The league fee is $50 and weekly cost is $12 to walk and $20 to ride.

Youth soccer clinic April 14-17

The Oneonta State men’s soccer team will host an indoor/outdoor soccer camp for youths in grades 2-11 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 14-17.

Cost is $80 per camper or $20 per day. Registration will take place April 14 at O-State’s Alumni Field House. All pick-ups and drop-offs take place at the same location.

Campers will have access to the Chase pool and may purchase a pizza lunch for $4 per day.

The camp serves as a fundraiser for the Red Dragons upcoming trip to Barcelona.

Bowling tourney starts April 26

Cobleskill Family Bowling will host a super sweeper tournament April 26-27.

Qualifying rounds will be held at 1 and 4 p.m. April 26. The top five qualifiers will return April 27 to compete in a stepladder final.

First place is guaranteed $2,000 for this scratch, singles tournament.

SADD run to be held April 27

The 16th annual SADD Strides For Safety 5K Run/Walk and Health Fair will be held April 27 at Oneonta High School.

Registration and the health fair will begin at 11:30 a.m. The race will start at 1 p.m.

The fee is $15 before April 27 and $20 on race day. Those registering by April 1 will be guaranteed an event T-shirt. Registration forms are available at schools in Oneonta, Franklin and Unatego, or by going online at www.oneontacsd.org/news.cfm.

Outlaws to host pro wrestling

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley will headline the Oneonta Outlaws’ Rumble on the Mound, a professional wrestling fundraiser slated for 2 p.m. May 3 at Damaschke Field in Oneonta.

The best-selling author and winner of 17 wrestling championships in his lengthy career, Foley will host the event to benefit the defending New York Collegiate Baseball League champion Outlaws.

The Honky Tonk Man, Johnny Valiant and Steve Corino also are scheduled to appear. The rumble also features a 12-man battle royal.

HOF Classic tickets on sale

Tickets for the sixth Baseball Hall of Fame Classic are on sale.

Six National Baseball Hall of Famers and more than two dozen former major leaguers will take part in the seven-inning exhibition game, which is slated for May 24 at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown.

The day will open with the Cooperstown Main Street Game Day Parade at noon, followed by a pre-game hitting contest at 1 p.m. First pitch is slated for 2:05 p.m.

Hall of Famers Phil Niekro and Ozzie Smith return as team captains and managers. They will be joined by Hall of Famers Roberto Alomar and Rollie Fingers, along with two Hall of Famers to be announced. Rosters will be announced in April.

Lumberjack qualifiers June 7

STIHL TIMBERSPORTS will host its Professional Northeast Qualifier for the area’s top lumberjacks June 7 in Cooperstown.

Local residents will take part in the hot saw, single buck, springboard chop, standing block chop, stock saw and underhand chop for a chance to earn entry into the U.S. Championship, which will run from June 20-22 at Norfolk Scope Arena in Virginia and air on ABC in September.

Youth conditioning program set

The Oneonta Family YMCA will host a sports conditioning program for youths ages 11-14 on Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 1.

Registration is required for the program, which runs from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Center Street School gymnasium. The program will not run during breaks for Oneonta High or Oneonta State.
