At regionals, Sarah Tessitore placed fourth in the Novice Flat and Taylor Johnson was sixth. Daryl Orend placed seventh in the Advanced Walk Trot Canter.
BASEBALLO-State goes 1-2
Oneonta State opened a three-game set at Kean with an 8-0 victory over the host school before dropping back-to-back games to Montclair State, 10-1 and 4-2.
Steve Ascher (3-1) struck out seven and walked one in a nine-inning four-hitter that led the Red Dragons (4-10) over Kean (13-3) on Saturday.
Matt Mastroianni capped a six-run second with a three-run homer for Oneonta, which received RBI singles from Oneonta High graduate David Wright, Sean Mullins and Casy Kies in the top of the inning.
LJ Gizzarelli contributed an RBI single in the eighth, which also featured an unearned run for the Red Dragons. Wright and Gizzarelli finished with two hits apiece.
Oneonta gave up seven runs in the second inning of its second game Saturday as Montclair State cruised to victory.
Chris Orlando’s RBI double in the first gave O-State the early lead, but starting pitcher Joe Franke (0-1) allowed six earned runs in the second before leaving with one out in the inning.
Kies, who scored on Orlando’s double, had two of Oneonta’s five hits.
On Sunday, the Red Dragons blew a 2-0 lead and fell again to Montclair State (5-6). Orlando had a two-run double that capped Oneonta’ scoring in the top of the first.
Wright and Mastroianni each had a hit and a run for O-State, which struck out 13 times. Losing pitcher Alex Mastrianni struck out six, walked two, scattered six hits and allowed four runs — three earned — in seven innings.
Oneonta will open its home schedule at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday with a non-conference game against Montclair State.
