Big fourth quarter lifts Hartwick over King's


O-State will host Brockport at 11 a.m. Saturday.


Freshman Emily McLaughlin placed second overall in the Advanced Walk Trot Canter and senior teammate Paige Montayne took fourth in the same event to lead SUNY Cobleskill to a fourth-place team finish Saturday during the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone 2 Region 3 Championships at the Van Lennep Riding Center.

Cameron Banks, a senior, finished seventh overall in the High Point Rider Standings on the strength of a seventh in the Open Equitation on the Flat.

The Fighting Tigers also received a sixth in Intermediate Equitation Over Fences from sophomore Barbara Whyte and an eighth from senior Sean Bailey in Open Equitation on the Flat.

Hartwick College selected teammates Julia Ready and Taylor Trombley as its Hawks of the Week for their performances during the IHSA regional show.

Ready, a junior, won Novice Over Fences and took second in Intermediate Flat, qualifying in both events for Zones in Fairfield, Conn.

Oneonta High graduate Trombley, a sophomore, also qualified for Zones with a first in Intermediate Flat. She also earned a fifth in Novice Fences.

Sean Coppola and Jefferson Monastoque each won five games in singles play Monday, but Hartwick was swept in its season opener at Hilton Head, S.C.

Coppola dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Matt Kavanagh at fourth singles. Monastoque fell to Tom Runde, 6-2, 6-3, at fifth singles.

The Tommies improved to 7-2.

The Hawks play Concordia (Wisc.) today in Hilton Head.
